Motion Tracking

or lack there of?
I play on 4-5 various public servers, and I have never seen motion tracking actually work.
The only exception being every once in a while it will make a blue blip for a hive.
I remember the first or 2nd game I ever played, having 20 or more blue "blips" showing up.
Am I missing something here? Shouldn't it be making a blue "blip" for every alien which is moving in range?
Does the commander have to do a "scan" in the area for the motion tracking to pick up targets?

Thats odd. It works for me.
I think it is a server setting though. If you click view game info, i THINK it has a motion tracking 1 or 0 there.
1 being on
0 being off
But, i havent checked for a while so mabey it was a hallucination.
I'v literally played 100s of matches accross these 4-5 servers without it working.
Can those of you who've had it work... explain the details?
-Do you need a satalite at remote locations?
-Does it make blips for any moving alien and any range?
-Do you need to do sensor sweeps for it to find targets?
I believe that motion tracking is what the marines need to not get smoked on 9/10 matches.
first descrip of the observitory:
1) any aliens in its range (it will cover marine spawn and not much else) can not cloak
2) if motion tracking is researched then any MOVING aliens in the ENTIRE map will show up with blue circles
now what CAUSES THE BUG!!!
This was discovered by the Oberlin CompSci department {OCCS}
it is server side it is the LINUX server that seems to break it
we had a dedicated server running and when ever we played motion tracking never worked
we then tried hosting a game on the windows side of the machines and it started working (compleatly reliably)
the only specs for these comps that I know is that they are running some what old (and sorta shody) Radieons
yah, we don't know if this is b/c of our vid cards or is the actual problem, but yah it is from the linux server (hey Flay I think we got it ;D)
so a simpl test is to try and play only on windows servers and see if it works
Please post.
Also, I would like to know exactly what it does when it's working.... so that I know that it isn't just me that is the problem.
Same thing for me with aliens, those huge yellow dots showing up on the screen sometimes make it difficult for me to accurately shoot someone with an acid rocket or spikes.
Maybe I'm just rambling, anyone else feel the same way???
Laz is right, motion tracking is bugged with linux servers, thats why you're not seeing it every so often. It works fine with win32.

Im pretty sure it works here. Oh and for those who are wondering what its like when it works: It looks kind of like the aliens ability to see each other through walls and such.

It's some sort of optimizaton setting being used for the Linux compile messing it up most likely. C++ is known to be incredibly picky about optimization flags on Linux for some gawdawful reason unless you use the newest compilers, which has it's own kettle of restrictions!
