Hey guys,

I just found out UWE have been hiding a whole map from us!

    ... its probably only for that beta trailer, wasnt even constructed with real gameplay so chances are very small that its going to be a new map.

    That is the Alien Start room on the Mineshaft map. It's a real room on a real map, and its the next one in line to be released in the beta. That final scene itself that takes place in that room was setup for the trailer, but the rest of the footage in the trailer was either recorded with our playtesters on our servers or recorded on random servers in actual pub games that we'd jump into. I'd say at least half the footage was recorded in random pub games.

    I thought you would be talking about ns2_junction as i never see that map on servers plus i've only had the game since build 160, is it because its so small or something?

    Tram, unstable for most

    Rockdown, stable enough for most and playable

    Junction, I guess server admins think it is too small with only 3 techpoints (I tend to agree :P)

    I would almost say junction is sorta like king of the hill...whomever holds the 2nd tech point pretty much wins although in a twist of luck both teams can have it long enough to gain tier 2 and if played well would be an all out fight to the finish. The only draw back is that flamethrower should be tier 3 at the moment so it kinda kills the level as far as balance is concerned but all in good time....all in good time.

    I tried junction again in 160, but theres no eggs so that would be why in this current build its not getting played.

    think that junction is a good map for 3vs3 or 4vs4. But to many players destroy the atmosphere etc. on this map. Maybe good for little clan wars.

    I'm excited for mineshaft!

    So I'm guessing there will be water incorporated into the engine and a bit of outdoor gameplay aswell?

    I read somewhere there wouldn't be water, even tough I would love it :-)

    There were some really fun ns1 maps where water was an important element :p

    But it might not fit the devs vission (and time..)

    Hmm, i don't like the sound of that, to be considered a decent game engine it really needs to have all the basics, like proper water, glass, shader effects, physics, interactivity (buttons, elevators, doors, teleport etc) basically a lot of the useful stuff you find in most engines.

    I can live without a few of those things for now and they should definitely focus on getting the core game to a decent state but eventually those things are needed to make the game a success, otherwise the engine and our creativity will be held back from its full its potential.

    Some of what I saw in there was BS lol. Since when do the lights stay out that long after the conduit is destroyed. I am disappointed at how it actually currently works. Why do marines even have flash lights, they never need to use them except for the seconds that power goes out in a room which is an extremely rare event with marine presence. I wish that either lights stayed out or were out for much longer. Hell maybe they should be out all the time unless marines have powered the area next to it, thus it gets emergency lighting.

    It's not the only video with footage of an as-yet unreleased map...

    I won't say which because that would be too easy, although I'm sure plenty of you know which it is.

    This thread has been a little surprising though; do people play Junction that much? I never intended it to still be useful this far along in development, but if people are enjoying it (under whatever circumstances), I'd be interested to know.

    Thats realy what i miss, some maps on "earth" or other planets, like NS1 map with the platform outside the whole station, gives a bit the feeling of outside.

    Yes, that room is in the game, but with all of those details. There was nothing added to that room just for the purpose of the movie.

    Also, you'll be pleased to know that one of the other maps in development has something pretty similar to what you are thinking about, with the platform outside of the station.

    I would really really really love to have veil or eclipse back.

    That concept has an organic, rock floor with metal walkway panels dropped down. And that concept was for the Mineshaft map, just a different room then the one shown in the trailer.

    I was going to suggest someone gets lork.com (as I've got clorf). But some company has 'parked' it until 2011; since 1999 :/
