How is performance nowadays?

I've just purchased a new rig and among all the newer games I was thinking of purchasing, this one was one of them.

How is the performance nowadays? Those with top of the line rigs still seeing stuttering?

System Specs:

i5 2005k OCed to 4.2ghz
8gig 1600 Corsair Ram
EVGA Nvidia 570 gfx card

I have a comp pretty close to yours with a i7 870@3.6ghz and a highly oced gtx470. The performance is really nice now, I get around 45-80 fps, probably an average of 50 or 55. If your'e talking about the rubberbanding however, that is still there. Thats related to server memory leaks so no matter what your computer its going to happen. It has been getting better though.

Agreed. With your specs you should be over the solid 30fps. Most likely well over 40 most of the time. But again, the game is not optimized in any way so there are further fps improvements to come.
But (server side) rubber-banding is still there (and worse then in 161 imho). Gets hopefully fixed soon.

FPS is fine however there is still horribad lag and rego.

Performance is similar to what I get from Crysis :/

Its better than it was in the summer at least. I dunno, maybe I'll have to wait for a new laptop/pc to be able to play NS2 even when its been optimized a lot?

I think there seem to be some huge server side issues. I have a crappy laptop, so I can really tell when something is causing lag/fps drop.

On my own on Rockdown (spawning in) even on 1024 x 640 it is very smooth. As soon as one person joins a team I start noticing a huge difference in performance. Like a hit on FPS from the effects of server performance (for some reason?).

On really good servers (at some points in the level) it is as if my fps suddenly bounces up to 40+ (in action), and then i'll pop out somewhere and it just suddenly dive bombs.

Feels totally weird, where you'd expect a slow progression of performance drop - but instead you get huge steps in performance between servers, areas of the map and/or other reasons.

Thanks for the input everyone. We've made some big improvements here but we're still quite focused on making the game silky smooth.

Next up on the chopping block - Lua garbage collection (it's causing hitches). Rock on, Max and Brian!

Been following that optimization thread over in Modding. Gogo Max, Brian, and Community! :D

8800GT and AMD Dual Core reporting in at about 20fps. =p

I really should buy a new comp.
