Giving the game more atmosphere

Main thing bothering me about NS right now isn't balancing.
It's while I'm playing, I don't get the feeling as if I'm "there". Its more like playing a plastic figure and pretending to be shooting or biting someone or something...
But you can achieve a better experience with just a few tweaks:
-Acoustical/visual impact of hitting bullets/bites.
No, I'm not talking about gore effects or something like that. Just loud and clear impact sounds and visuals, but the sounds are way more important to this.
example:
I'm shooting with my MG over the floor, hit Aliens a few times, then hit the floor again.
bullet->ground *clank* *sparks*
bullet->ground *clank* *sparks*
bullet->ground *clank* *sparks*
bullet->alien *splat* *blood*
bullet->alien *splat* *blood*
bullet->alien *splat* *blood*
bullet->ground *clank* *sparks*
bullet->ground *clank* *sparks*
bullet->ground *clank* *sparks*

Its not much but it makes so much difference in gaming experience.
Also, its so frustrating if you fight someone and die and you have no idea if you hit him or not.

Walking sounds can be also improved.
