<div class="IPBDescription">Problems playing after installation</div> Here's my problem :
I have a perfectly running game pc. (amd 1400 1024mb 80gig8mbcache etc)
I've installed Halflife, Counterstrike and update hl1110 .exe (or something)
Now i play these games online and on my private lan @ home, no problem.
Since a few days me and my compadres discovered NS , so i downlaoded it and we play it, i even have a dedicated server running . All these installations work just fine, accept mine.
It randomly crashes with the error below in the picture, and sometimes with the upper picture.
What can i do to solve this problem ?

List of things already tried / solved :
Re-download of NS
Re-install of NS
Total reinstall of HL, CS & NS.

However , what ever is try, the problem remains <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Can somebody please tell me what to do ?
I'm getting sick of rebooting my machine trying to play this game ...

    Please, as the tech support forum FAQ states, provide system stats, video modes, and everything else it asks for.

    Which is it? Software mode is not currently supported by NS, and won't be until Valve patches HL because of a bug deep in their engine that NS managed to stumble across (yes, NS really does push the limits of the engine). And do you have EAX on?

    I've experienced the problem at both resolutions , and the only music option is high quality. (all the other options are disabled) I'll go and try less higher resolutions then , maybe this helps (i don't understand what a resolution has got to do with a runtime error , or C++ library thingy )
    Also what i don't understand is when i'm not even using NS but CS the problem persists (not really pushing my machine to a limit imho)

    BYM, what was your install path for NS?

    This problem doesn't make a whole lot of sense bc. afaik NS doesn't modify any files used by CS.

    Are you *sure* the problem goes away after you remove NS?

    Well i used the standard installation path, configged nothing on that one.
    C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe

    And yes now that i did a uninstall [edit]on NS [/edit] i am positive *sure* that CS runs without problems .

    So, once you installed NS you had C:\Sierra\Half-Life\ns\ correct?

    And are you saying that you had to reinstall CS to get it running properly?

    Yep, that's right, after install of NS i had C:\Sierra\Half-Life\ns\ , that's correct.

    And i had to uninstall NS to run CS smoothly, the problem only is there in NS and in CS and in TF and in HL when NS is installed .

    What could be the solution , i want to be able to play them all ...

    Have you tried the sound tweaks? i.e. try NOT using high-quality sound, and try running dxdiag and setting the sound acceleration to none.

    Guess what my friend? I can tell you exactly the problem.

    The error you recieved is known as a "C5" error. If you have ever ran a POL server (an Ultima Online emulator), you know of this. Tribes 2 also has this error. It's a catch-all when something screws up at run time. The Visual C++ thing means that either you have VC++ on your computer or that it was compiled with VC++.

    Now, what's this mean to you? Sorry, nothing. The devs have to fix this, as it's a programming bug.

    Devs: This will happen if you do something like this.

    char * Dude = "Dude";
    char * Duder;
    strcpy(Duder, Dude);

    I believe it has something to do with you didn't allocate enough memory for Dude to be copied to Duder. It also happens with strcat(). If you debug and you find a "0x000000C5 Access Violation Error", you will know where your problem is and I'm pretty sure it will be something like that.

    I found a fix, delete any C++ programs or packs you have installed.

    Well, i'm back, let's try it again. The last time by the way, i didn't have any C++ things on my machine, don't iunderstand the language either so i have nothing to throw away i guess ......
