Hello,
I was wondering how many features you will be porting from NS1.
NS1 is almost a perfect game, so I really hope you will bring out as many features as you can.
Lets take few examples:
-Marine teleports
-Marine catalysts
-Marine welders
-Heavy Armor
-Jetpack
-Alien chambers(all the cool abilites like cloaking, speed, redemption etc.)
-Gorge web
These kind of things are the real spice of the NS1 adding tactical depth into the game. So I hope you guys wont neglect the magical ascpects of NS1 which made the game so special.

Dunno about Cat packs
Lots of community would like welders, but MACs seem to be the stand-in for now
Heavy Armor is re-made into Exoskeleton
JPs should be in eventually (?)
Chambers are on their way.
Don't think web is coming back
From facebook. Looks like they are at least thinking about it.
-Marine catalysts - Going in
-Marine welders - Questionable
-Heavy Armor - Going in
-Jetpack - Going in
-Alien chambers(all the cool abilites like cloaking, speed, redemption etc.) - Going in
-Gorge web - Testing/Going in<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Is it going to be related to the obs? You can do a sort of teleport system by placing obs around the map and then using beacon.
The research/upgrade is there, but it doesn't work.
Transponder works, not as intended, but it'll teleport you to a squad.
Burn the infestation around the webs, since webs are suppose to work on infestation.
If you so desired, you could keep one marine back in base and never have to build a MAC, ever. That he can be bypassed without detriment means he's not particularly useful, but more so in certain situations just merely convenient. I liked how he was when he was necessary to drop buildings.

I don't mean to call out a "reality check" here but if web makes it to the game and neither of these methods are used to clear it then I call shenanigans.
try to cut a spiderweb - cu in 1000 years :P
I don't really have a problem with that.

I'm thinking you could, easily. I'm about to be a huge nerd here...
/nerdtalk on <--- just doing this makes me feel ashamed, but I've gone past that point...
I remember reading about the nanoscopic substratum in particular, lol. Check out the description for the 2.sec Switch-Ax -- quite the name!
<a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/2010/3/friday_update_the_pistol_and_axe" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/2010/3/fr..._pistol_and_axe</a>
Apart from that, it made me think about what "cutting" actually means. It merely means to break something at a specific point, essentially. This never came up to talking to my friends in Mechanical or Materials Engineering... but you are right about spider silk being extremely strong. However, even the strongest is not as strong as something like a carbon nanotube, diamond, or even certain grades of steel (steel alloys). I grabbed pascal ratings from a wikipedia table.
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tensile_strength" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tensile_strength</a>
Not sure what type of stress smashing an axe blade into a silk (or alien) web would be exactly...but it looks like many things revolve around the main property of something's UTS.
I didn't know they were researching spider silk microstructure for protective materials! I suppose the weave and elasticity is more important, though.
So how elastic and strong is Kharra web? I have no idea about that. Thanks for making me think about it, though. I learned a couple things.
/nerdtalk off
That sounds interesting..
But... (there is always a but)
Given the fact how small a spider is and how big a gorge would be, the web might be stronger then a steel cable.
I bet if you try to cut through a kharaa web your axe will get stuck in it.
(This would also happen with a diamond axe, I suppose.)
Remember webs are highly gluey... according to NS1 a single string of web is enough to tape down a whole marine.
Edit:
I think the flamethrower would be the weapon of choise because webs are flammable.
Hmmm... Flammable eh?
*A group of marine walks into a massive web trap*
Gorge: "Now torch this, marines!"
1. do damage to marine buildings (ofc do what it did before)
2. reduce marine armor, but not damage them
3. great way to spread infestation - spitting large ball of infestation which would start growing to anywhere it lands, plus giving the gorge short range where to drop it

Monomolecular edge. Cuts right through the bonds between molecules.
Flamethrower or Grenades make the best sense... as long as they both are at around the same tier. If the axe can they it should be slow for this task... take a few swings at least.
