Axe animation

Hi,
I just bought the game so I won't make any suggestions about gameplay/balance/features since I am still a complete newb.
However, one weird thing I noticed is that the axe is instantly hitting the target when you press the button - before the swing animation.
The attempt at hit registration should happen in the middle of the swing animation so it feels natural and also makes it possible to start the animation before being in melee range and then move forward to actually hit the target (like in real-life).
Also tell me if this is not the way/place to discuss stuff like this.

That's the problem.
It doesn't matter how fast/slow the animation is. It hits as soon as you press the button, like a bullet. The animation is purely cosmetic.
On that note though, personally, I would rather have the animation take <b>longer</b> with higher damage, which would make it more skill based instead of just holding M1.
