What's up with skulk leap?

Researching "running leap" doesn't seem to do anything, when I hit right click while moving the skulk just farts and propels forward like 20cm, no upward momentum. Works fine when stationary.

Well, when you get the upgrade it doesn't automatically activate on you.

You have to press B to go into the evovle menu and then select the skulk upgrades (You have to be skulk for this, if you change lifeforms and then change back into a skulk you have to do it again).

Is this process (upgrading each time you spawn as skulk) because the upgrade costs resources? I hadn't noticed if it had a cost.

It doesn't cost resources, and you don't have to do it every time you spawn. Once upgraded, it will stay until you evolve into a lerk/fade/gorge, at which point you will have to select it again as a skulk if you want it.

We still need flashing icons somewhere on the screen like NS had to indicate you can haz upgrades

Haha, I've been wondering this too but I just assumed it's a bug.. anyway thanks to people clearing it up.

No matter how obvious they make the upgrades, the ghetto leap that Skulks start out with is always going to be super confusing to new players.

Why can't ghetto leap (I got yelled at calling it minileap before lol) just jump slightly more than it does but still not leap anything in comparison to a full leap? Wouldn't this be a simple solution still encouraging the upgraded leap + avoiding confusion?

Or just do nothing while running. the current method is confusing and you'll never want to do a gimped leap, since it takes energy for a move distance that's negligible.

the only difference their should be between running leap, and mini-leap is the distance of the leap. this way the skulks can use both type of leaps mid air, or while jumping/moving. This is so simple, I don't understand why something like this hasn't been done already.

also the energy of leap needs to be reduced, after 3 leaps you're pretty much all drained.

the ideas they have do not translate in-game.

They gimped mini leap because it was bugged where if you jump and mini-leap at the same time, you got the same effect as running leap, which was unfair. I say just disable mini-leap while running, so you don't waste energy, or if possible provide a small forward speed increase.

I also think running leap should be a tier 1 upgrade, but it should cost 20 res to research (currently only 5 res but requires tier 2 tech). So if the aliens want running leap early, they can have it without a second hive, but it's quite a sacrifice in resources.
