Haha! I get very excited. It's hard to cram a whole changelog into under 10 minutes... even speaking that fast I missed heaps of stuff!

PS: I am sorry about the clicking and popping in this video. I am working on fixing it ASAP.

all that clicking and popping drastically lowered the quality of the film and therefor ruined the theatrical experience for me.

    i tease.

since the other topic was closed, not sure why I will re-post the problems I posted there.

    here some problems with it:

    1.can't leap while jumping
2.sometimes you can leap twice and still have energy for third jump but I have to stop than it will work
3.leap allows you a total of 3 leaps, perhaps actually more like 2 good leaps. the energy cost of is way too expensive
    4. no air control, leaping in straight line without being able to turn mid flight is badly needed.
    5. leap distance is really short

feels like mini-leap and running leap, in between but not actually not like ns1 leap at all. As someone stated above me leaps are predictable, leap needs better air control.
leap still doesn't feel as ns1 leap, and I hope the problems I've listed get addressed.

Okay. Start using getsatisfaction. That's what it is made for, repeating yourself is really annoying now.

    ^ "now."
All he ever does is repeat himself, and it was already annoying a month ago.

    -

    1. You can't leap while jumping for the same reason you can't double jump. Does it seem right to double jump? No. Why should it seem right to jump leap?

    4. Air control while leaping... for now, you could try actually considering where you want to leap to before you actually leap? Just a suggestion. Otherwise, play lerk.

    -

    2. Sounds like <strike>a bug, or else</strike> a lack of clarity, i.e. you actually don't have enough energy, but it looks like you do. <strike>For example, if leap cost 35 energy; after two leaps, you'd have 30 energy remaining (this is close to 35).</strike> <u>Edit</u>: In fact it's 40, so if you leapt twice instantly, you'd have 20 energy left. However, that doesn't account for energy regeneration, so after two leaps you might have regenerated 15 energy, so you'd have 35 energy, but this is still less than the 40 required.

<b>3. Regarding energy cost... they should restore the skulk's Running Leap upgrade for tier 2, but make it drastically reduce the energy cost of leap.</b>

    5. Maybe.

    -

<b>Other thoughts: perhaps leap could do a small amount of damage on contact, e.g. 10 (same amount of damage as parasite)</b>]

    <b>My suggestions.</b>

    Fix the lag...

Game is fine just needs more maps and modes and much much less lag.

i don't think it's actually implemented yet. but if i had to guess, i'd say it's a short-term damage buff that comes when you kill a marine.
  • HarimauHarimau Join Date: 2007-12-24 Member: 63250Members
It'd be cool if it were a temporary, slight (but cumulative) movement and attack speed bonus whenever you do damage as a skulk.

Strange, the bloodthirst upgrade was never available when I tried. I did exactly what Hugh did in the video, but the button was still greyed out. It still says "coming soon", so I assume it doesn't function yet.

I can live with the slightly toned down lean for wall runs. Still, I miss the precision you get from actual camera roll. Bah, can't have everything, I guess.

    Could be what Tig said.
Could be some sort of Scent of Fear for the Alien Dark Vision. Some sort of visual distinction for Marines/Structures with low health, so Skulks can take them out first.

..or it gives the Skulk back a little bit of Health, if it bites a living Creature (Marine (no Buildings/Macs))

    fix the performance issues...

i just don't get it. i'm checking your website every day, hoping for a new build which could finally get the game working in some way...
finally there is one, and as it seems like no one actually cares about the biggest issue at all. don't bother with the detailed s**t, as long as the basics do not perform decent.
i know/hope/thought there is progress ongoing regarding this issue(s), but don't you think it's some kind of joke to those who aren't even able to play the game?

it's like you'd build up a house with no doors. only caring about if the kitchen should be painted in red, purple or yellow... but you cannot decide, so you want some feedback.

... wtf? i wanna get in!

<i>Because performance has not been worked on at all J/K Heck, with 170 I can play again, 162-169 where oddly stuttery and crashy for me, but this latest one made my pc gogogo again...</i>

Also anyone else get this bug when you look straight down and pull the trigger your screen turns 45 degrees instantly? I was skydiving onto a Skulk with mah shotty, got disorientated by this sudden 45 degree instant turn.

now I know people don't look straight down very often, but in this case I was about to serial crush said Skulk, only to lose my sense of direction and die to said Skulk teeth :P

They have people dedicated to each part of the game. That includes working on performance optimizations. It's not like they only focus on performance issues every week. Each person has a role that they are hired to do, and usually doing much more then that.

We have mentioned it in many various posts on these forums, and there really isn't much point in constantly talking about it with every patch. Our "engine-guys" is just one guy. At the moment we only have 2 programmers working on the game (though we are actively trying to hire another programmer). One is fixing bugs and working on gameplay, and the other is working on optimization and performance. While the tasks on the progress page may not specifically say "performance optimizations" all of the Lua related tasks listed under Technical Tasks are in fact performance related.

The Lua binding layer integration has been a very large and time consuming task, and has had to be done independent of the main branch of game code, and then reintegrated back into the game, so it has taken weeks. Therefore, even though the patches we release aren't improving performance, it doesn't mean that we aren't still hard at work on that stuff.

What are your guestimates on how long until you can start evaluating its positive performance impact?

You don't want them to answer this question. This gives everyone an expectation, which invites disappointment, which incites more crying and whining. It'll be done when it's done, and you'll notice improvements when it's improved. Don't expect anything, and you'll always be surprised.

    uh uh uh.

    however:

Maybe my post sounded a little bit emotional or insulting, but actually i'm pretty "cool" with this situation.
I just don't play it, and I think I'm not the only one who handles it in that manner - which (in my point of view) isn't really beneficial (fanbase growth)

It's beta, I know. It's done when it's done, I know. But, I was also hoping for faster progress, since the game was pretty long in alpha/beta state up to now.

I only wanted to "share" my opinion on that, even if doesn't match yours. I've read through some threads regarding my complaints... also found postings about this LUA binding thingy, which seems to take a lot of time...

    The thing is:
I didn't know that there are TWO or actually just ONE guy behind it... and it kinda scares me, that it might turn out as an endless story.
(Duke Nukem Forever "when it's done" any1?)

However, I'm very looking forward to see improvements... if not, waste of money... but let's see.
