Lasers?

ehhhhh....?
Do you guys think Natural selection 2 would have a place for lasers or plasma beams or some kind of energy blue/red laser thing? Like, I guess it seems like it takes place far in the future but maybe more of a battlestar galactica future as opposed to a star wars or star trek future.
I was just thinking lasers somewhere in the game (targeting, guns, or turrets) would look really cool, but then I wasn't sure if it would clash with the sort of reality that unknown world is trying to develop.

I'm all for trip-mines with lasers though :P
We had this already! We need this again!
EDIT: Although we need a proximity for mine to mine placement, putting like 20 round a PG is bloody stupid.
Oh the days of laser disco rooms, now in a dynamic environment! It is our destiny to blow up everything in a glorified laser-fest of madness and then party hard in the Raveroom...
I saw someone using the cinematic editor to create electrical beams in a post from quite a while ago. This might be possible in game now but I am not very good at the cinematic editor yet so am unsure how to recreate such effects for laser beams. I would certainly like to learn however, as I have a particular interest in raves and rooms to rave in :p (just saw Downlink perform at an epic rave in a mill building over the weekend!!)
Also the HEXO is supposed to have a railgun. Typical implementation of such a gun in FPS games often tends to resemble a laser as well. (although irl these two weapons are completely different)
I can't think of any other weapons in NS2 that are energy/lazer based, though, including the Exosuits railgun weapon (and yeah, a lot of railguns in games shoot electrical beams which seems odd, as it seems to defeats the whole purpose of what a railgun is)

Because it is a SCIENCE weapon which allows you to kill your enemies with SCIENCE by shooting SCIENCE at them SCIENTIFICALLY.
And as everybody knows SCIENCE equals LIGHTING because all SCIENCE takes the form of shooting LIGHTNING at things until they change colour and start bubbling and then chugging the result.
That's how I do my SCIENCE anyways.
Curious to see how the railgun works I admit, given that they usually are some sort of sniper rifle, I wonder what use it will have in NS2.
Non weaponised lasers would be nice though, give marines laser sights, turrets laser scanning beams, mines laser detectors, macs laser welders.
Lasers are pretty cool so more lasers would make the game better.
Railguns are an excellent sniper weapon, in many fast paced dm games, a sniper might be fun, but you dont want campers. So you force them to relocate atleast a bit more, by making a line the enemys can trace to its origin.
I want lazers, like, the real huge ones that insta incinerates anyone, and is fired out of a emergency flare model!!!1one
I see a use for one futuristic look on stuff, and that is the welder. Lets face it, plasma cutters > fail welding torches, maybe let it cut holes trough anything, including walls, and the fabric of time, and dont forget to make players holding one use it as a phone when using mic.
No but really, if a welder ever is implemented, I must say a futuristic effect might actually look nice.
A 'gamma-ray gun', based on stimulated emission of gamma rays from a metastable isotope, is superficially plausible(best candidate and the one most studied appears to be hafnium-178m2). A beam of gamma rays would produce recoil electrons from compton scattering, and these recoil electrons cause further ionizations in air. Recombination of ions and electrons emits lights at wavelengths characteristic to the gas in question; in air a plausible appearance would be a faint, pale blue, fuzzy beam.
The energy density of nuclear fuels is enormous; you would never have to reload this weapon. (1 gram contains as much energy as 300 kg tnt). Instead of ammo count you would have a thermometer. At some low repetition rate you never have to stop firing, but if you spam you quickly overheat heat and break the weapon.
skulks and lerks aren't thick enough to absorb all gammas and would only take perhaps half as much damage as an onos when hit.
The highest energy gamma ray from hafnium-178m2 is ~0.5 MeV. The half value thickness for depleted uranium, the best available shielding material, is ~1.7 mm for 0.5 MeV gammas( http://physics.nist.gov/PhysRefData/XrayMa...lemTab/z92.html ). If the chamber of the weapon is 2 cm in diameter and 1 meter long, providing a protection factor of 1 million(20 halving thicknesses) with depleted uranium would weigh on the order of a hundred kilograms. A plausible reason for restricting the weapon to exoskelleton wearers.
It is considered a sniper type weapon with a small clip size.

I wasn't being sarcastic.
Lasers are cool, games with more lasers in them are cooler than games with fewer lasers in them. Therefore, lasers make a game cool and cool games are fun and fun games are better, and therefore lasers make a game better.
Obviously there is more to it than that but all else being equal, I would rather have a game with lasers in it.
Every game nowadays uses AK47s and M16s. I miss games that had cool guns. Like half life, half life had a gun that was the arm off an alien soldier and it shot bees at your enemies. Half life had tiny little aliens you could throw at enemies and make them eat them. Half life had a proton pack.
I want guns that shoot cool stuff in NS2. Miniguns, cool, railguns, cooler, minirailgunlasers, most cool.

LOOK OUT! I'M GONNA TRY SOME SCIENCE!

That looks more like giving a skulk a shotgun enema.
Ahahah! AHa., Ahhahaha.. Ahh... Oh dear. Now all I can think about is union jacks, hairy chests, and Dr Evil trying to coax mini-me down from the rafters in Tram Marine Start.
