Alien - Closing mouth to attack is very limiting

<div class="IPBDescription">Closing mouth to attack as an alien blinds you for a second...</div>My dear developers,
Please understand that I do love this game and that I understand why to have the alien camera inside the aliens mouth.
I think it looks VERY cool the way it is right now, there is only one thing that bothers me: Whenever I bite, I become blind for a fraction of a second.
This might not look like a big deal, but when ure a skulk running after a marine, u just hold ur left click button, which makes u keep biting (and losing vision).
Im not too sure if a lot of people find that as disturbing as I do, but I am sure of 2 things:
1-At least for me, it impairs my gameplay.
2-It is very very very annoying, and after awhile I dont even wanna play alien anymore, because I just keep seeing my screen blinking all the time.

So please, even if just optional, do something about this situation.
Here is a suggestion:
Make it (even if just optional through settings) so u can turn the alien's mouth transparent.
That way, Ill still know when im attacking, it will look cool, but it wont be sooo annoying and wont impair gameplay as much.
And if you guys really choose this as a solution (which would make me honored, of course), maybe you could even add a "bar" so that people can adjust how transparent they want their "mouths" to be.

Well, this is my suggestion.
Hope I was helpful,
Cruc.

    Hi,
if you bite someone in his legs, you will not see much more than his legs ;)
I find it looks very cool and you will acclimatize to this, when you a play alien more often.

Personally, I think it is fine.

The problems that you have said with it aren't actually problems. If you played NS1 then you will know that it is the same and nothing has changed.

The only advice I can give is not to constantly be biting your jaws or do not focus that much on your teeth and more on the enemy.

The more I play Aliens the less I notice the teeth.

Hm, not to good idea tbh, maybe make an option for making the mouth closed at all times tho (so it never "blinks all the time").

The effect is a huge part of the gameplay and balancing tbh.

I like to do it, and yet I pwn. But that could be because of how the 2 first bites is almost guaranteed (ambush ftw) and the third is either luck (even skill is luck), or something sepparating us and a leap+bite to kill

This problem has been noted before and UWE has made the effect less obstructing. I'd prefer no obstruction (melee + obstructing view = hard for new players to use skulk effectively), but you can get used to the current system. For me, skulk combat is melee spam + leap/bhopping around the marine with alien vision on until they or I die.

I don't remember where i read it, but afaik the closing Teeth are supposed to represent the Skulk closing its Eyes if it bites.

But after a while as a Skulk you will get used to.

Balancing is the key here, without this Skulks are severely overpowered in every way. You just need to get used to it and once you do, you'll also get a better sense of situational awareness because of this.

I think translucency still hasn't made it into the engine yet, but when it does, I'd definitely like to see this.

I like the fact that the mouth shuts. Why because as a skulk it is in fact better to do less "spray and pray" and try and bite when it will hit. Its better to track the human and jump and bite and not just hold down bite. You will find that if you time your bites better it will help. I like the blinding because it makes it hard to if you will spray and pray. You need to aim and time your bites. Try not to freak and just "fire" try to keep your cool and aim and time your attack. Its a element of skill that i think is done very well.

It's supposed to "blind" you. I know this was brought up in NS1 (along with the muzzle flash on the LMGs) and it's intended. It's what separates the men from the boys.

Yeah. It's pretty much meant to force you to pay attention to your attacks rather than throw them out with wild abandon. Or in a nutshell,
Don't hold ur left click button.
