why not stick with a ns2 theme - then you won't need to re model everything - call it hive keeper instead

That is a nice idea for Ns2 in general. When the NPCs aren't lobotomized anymore.
Create a job, they get it done and ask players for help when there are enemys nearby.

MAC: "I think I heard something" (a la claptrap)
Drifter: *distorted meow from an angsty cat and other chatter indicating fear*

The major obstacle is probably the huge amounts of destructible terrain. Now I'm curious how that worked in Dungeon Keeper...

the whole area was black, so i assume it was mapped as not traversable and only the areas digged open where available for the pathfinding routines...

It was a tile based engine, which is a very effective way to do a destructible environment. If the NS2 theme is to be used for this, there won't be that many races (or classes). Hive Keeper would be awesome though, just need a way past the lack of classes...

Give 'em different hats and split the classes into more classes.

Cool idea. But I would rather have a mod that was standard DK rts style with only supporting like 4 (or whatever) players as the keepers and use AI for creatures just like DK does.

I had plans to create a very similar mod myself, but in a futuristic setting rather than the DK2 fantasy (purely as my artistic skills are awful at best, so it would speed things up to work with the existing NS2 assets as much as possible, and also it would create a darker feel, I think).

If you're looking for any help with this project, I'd love to chip in.

I already got as far as creating some breakable wall entities and an entity that populates the walls in the pre-alpha but lost all my source code when trying to get the alpha to work on my system (I think steam didn't appreciate my tinkering)

Have you created a github project for this yet? I think most of the building blocks that we'd need for this kind of project are already in the alpha (though obviously it will help when the MAC pathfinding code gets a little more mature!)

    This sounds really cool :)

From what I saw of dungeon keeper it was all done on line of sight shortest distance mapping however they did that.

Would be mint if this could work ^^

Perhaps it could be done instead of tiles and destructable terrain infestation and obviously burning it away again :) all already built in and ready to go :)
