Ha, I wasn't meaning to imply anything about next year. I honestly don't know how worth it E3 would be for us. There's a big cost associated with it, both time and money, and so many huge games all competing for the spotlight that we would probably get overshadowed.
We've talked about doing PAX a lot, though, and if we were to show NS2 at a convention, that one seems a bit more appropriate for us.
I think that if the game is worth it, people will take notice and it will get at least some attention. Which it could use.. But it undoubtedly has conciderable costs and there's alternative ways to get publicity. Just don't think a great game like NS2 is all that easily overshadowed by just another COD.
I know my company allocates $2.5M for E3 displays every year. We're bigger than most of the other booths, but that's still a ton of cash to set up a fancy info kiosk.

Wow, that sounds like the ridiculously prices companies pay for SuperBowl commercials.

That's actually... a surprisingly accurate comparison, though. The goal of E3 is to have everyone talking about your stuff for the weeks/months to come, just like the Super Bowl ads aim to have the most extravagant commercial to keep people talking (and then buying).
The other nice advantage if NS2 ever did PAX over E3, though, is the average gamer being able to get in and see it :) I can't remember if/when they last changed it, but IIRC E3 is only accessible to members of the gaming press, not to the public. PAX would be a great opportunity to get out there and mingle with the people who are going to spread news by word of mouth. (plus hey, attention from Gabe and Tycho couldn't hurt, especially if they mention it in their comic, eh?)
The people who follow E3 usually knows about gametrailers.com, ign.com and so on. So the ones that would notice it properly already knows about it ;) I don't really see the purpose of E3... Devs could just send out trailers, interviews and locked demos (To compensate for those that would've been lucky enough to try the game) from their offices xD Its all digital and can be done through PCs. It's not like a car convention where its the only way to get close to the product xD Waste of money for a small indie team such as UWE.

You guys HAVE to do PAX East next year! I'll actually be going next year as I live in NY and Boston is a meager two hours from here. I'd love to meet you guys. Plus you may be able to convince my friends I'll be going with to play NS2. They aren't quite sold yet and I am about out of ammunition to try and get them to buy and play the game.
