Commander, there is smegma all over that room, I am not going in. Wash it first, ffs!
I'm going to call it "Dynamic Infestation" and I'm going to be commander and if any marine refuses to say "Dynamic Infestation" in full every time they refer to it, I'm going to give them the crappy job like putting up a phase gate in the unoccupied tech node rooms. DECORUM MUST BE MAINTAINED. 7 syllables or go home!
Seriously though "croach" is a bad name and everyone will either call it infestation or DI just like phase gates are sometimes called PGs or resource towers are called RTs. Nobody had to think up a short snappy name for resource towers like "suck" or "slurp" or whatever.
i haven't heard yet any reasonable ideas of why it should be changed. I know what charlie wrote, but it makes no sense of why he thinks it should be changed. The word infestation applies pretty well to this, unless he wants to rename it to swarm? which means the same thing pretty much.
Dynamic croach?
or does charlie want to drop the word dynamic, because it won't be dynamic? i'm confused.

Apparently infestation is too long, and growth is too generic. Croach sounds like $*!% ... so why not DI, or DI(pronounciation "die"). KISS. Keep it simple, stupid. And it meets the goal of not being too long and unique to the game.
Well, like what i already said, marines will have to kill pustules to stop infestation while alien wil have to build them to spread the infestation. This will lead to people not talking much about infestation itself but the pustules and won't type the word infestation that often. That's why changing name to croach or mucus or whatever isn't needed, since we're not going to type about it that much.
Also, infestation does give sci-fi-ish feels and that's good.

Pustules will probably be nicknamed "pulses", for shortness. Makes sense to me too.
I still like infestation. I don't like croach because even though a reason is given for it to be called "croach" (encroach, cockroach), it still totally looks and sounds like crotch. The average person will automatically associate the two words.

Now "DI" pronounced "die" I actually like. Or, you can go the "dye" route since currently it looks like gorges are trying to tie-dye the whole floor :P
That really sounds intimidating and organic at the same time.

No it doesn't. It sounds like a green vegetable. I don't know how you think it would be a good idea to constantly tell players that green vegetables are spreading all over their screens. I suggest you play Farmville for such things.

Infestation is fine. If I were to change the name, I would say Turf. It's another name for territory, I think of green(grass) when it comes to the definition, hostility, etc.
Very easy to say, can't really make any jokes about it besides telling Gorges to surf(belly slide) on the Turf.
GORGE RUSH!!! EVERYONE SURF ON THE TURF FOR SPEED BOOSTS!!! GO GO GO!!!

Fester(s) and/or Festering, to me describes the infestation very well. The Hive seeks to corrupt its environment and festers the world with its infestation.

Yeah. It makes you wonder why things aren't just named simply to the community, rather than given a silly complex name which no one will actually care about, and will make their own word up instead.
