Sniper-like feature for the marines

Longtime lurker first-time poster.
I was thinking earlier that Lerks have the ability to zoom in and shoot a single spike at a time. Would anyone entertain the idea of having this feature for the LMG for the marine instead of a melee attack? For a less front-line player, being able to lay back and as a defensive/support unit would be a fun change of pace.

Marine pistol alt-fire should be a sniper pistol mode. Pistol is currently the best weapon to use against lerks, so why not make it official? Gives marines a sniper weapon and makes pistol alt-fire worthwhile.

Its not inconceivable. Also, it would also make the pistol alt-fire actually useful.
I remember seeing this somewhere in the code, I haven't heard any news about it though.

For the pistol, the secondary could be something like the automatic pistol features. Switching between single-shot and full magazine burst for those tough up-close battles.
This leaves the pistol's secondary to be either have the melee attack that the LMG currently has, or my other idea of having it as a magazine burst.
(I know that the ideas for the pistol are two separate ideas from the LMG and go against forum policy but it wouldn't help my argument if I made them new topics)
I also would really like a dedicated universal zoom button (mouse 3?) for marines. Like some have said, the zoom function would come from the helmet's HUD visor..not the gun. It would resemble the lerks zoom.. not ironsight. I've lost count how many times I wish I could zoom ...just a little bit even..im not greedy. No zoom function in a FPS game seems so 2002.
Not unless they forgot how to make cameras in the future. They did forget how to make 360 degree turrets so i wouldn't put it past them :P

For me the Alt of the pistol is the Sniper but without zoom, and i am glad that there is no zoom because it would do it impossoble to track a Alien! It would only help vs Structures.
For example take the Lerk sniper and then try to track a Zik Zak Lerk.
Aliens move to fast as that zoom would be useful! IMO.
Zoom is only good for Slow things. Or for predictable Moving of the Enemy.
Any Sniper (in RL) will say you the same.
Ever tried to shoot a flying Fly? Good luck.
We tried it with a SAW years ago (100rounds) and it survived!

Really? You can't imagine any more situations where this would be useful?
Of course you are not going to use zoom versus a skulk thats already in the process of assaulting you (don't even bother with a fade).
But how hard would it be track a lerk thats standing still sniping you down a long hallway or up in a vent or ledge.... Or a skulk standing still up on a wall far away thinking no one can see him. Or a gorge standing out in the distance healing a structure or planting some hydras. There has been literally countless situations where I have gone "GD SH*T FU*K! I wish I zoom FFS!".
I have come to grips that the pistol is our long range weapon to start off with (even though it makes little sense in the real world). But I would like a more dedicated mid-late-game sniper weapon for marines. Hell, I would like the ability to zoom period. It would make marine gameplay much more rewarding and interesting. Get rid of bunny hopping and give me zoom instead.

I always have to laugh when MAC say:

I don't have problems sniping a Lerk sitting outside in Summit.
Just have to Aim right and Listen at the sounds.
Even when you zoom, if you hit the Lerk he start Flying so good luck again tracking him even with LMG.
And only people who aren't used to Lerk sit and shoot (I can fly Zik Zak and stil Sniper you!)
Good players only have to sit down when a Gorge heals em because of turning around at such a smal place is to hard!
Why do you think summit looks like an futuristic airport then? Heliport! Flight Control! It all makes sense. Even the phase gates are just airport porno scanners in disguise.
Long range? Where? I don't see anything away more 300m.
I really have to say there isn't even much Midrange in NS2 only a few areas.
Just get 100 Kills with LMG and buy acog...
However, I still don't quite understand your objections to zoom. I get that you think it would hard to use and not useful. But if it was a skill other players could use effectively, would you still object to it?

I agree that in some FPS zoom is ok (Headys) but in NS2 a shot in the left feet of a Onos does the same DMG like a Headshot. And you get buffs when using zoom (better aim) but you were slower.
Even hitting a Suklk at the farest range in summit is no Problem!
Zoom for LMG, why a rifle is used at 300m without scope.
The only way I would let comming zoom to NS2 is, when its HUD based and you can NOT shoot when zoomed
So you still have zoom for scouting.

I thought originally you were against zoom because it would be useless. Now its because it would be too good? Which one is it? Being able to better aim on an Onos weak hitbox (as in your example) is exactly the kind of stuff zoom would be used for. If you have no trouble hitting a skulk at 300m, then good on ya mate!..but that doesn't exactly mean there should be no zoom. I am still not sure why you are against it.
I agree zoom would be good for scouting, another reason to have it.
I think it would be too much work implementing aim downs sights, when a simple HUD zoom (like lerk snipe) would have a similar effect. When you tie it to the HUD you don't have to deal with each individual gun's ADS visual. Plus some guns wouldn't have ADS, but zoom would still be useful for scouting.
Because NS2 is not like every other game and you need a melee attack when they get close.
