Connection problems detected..

Ok i dont know if im alone in this, but nearly all (or all servers) seem to randomly give me this message after joining a server. "Connection problems detected.." on the left side of the screen.

Eventually I'll get on a server, and it'll be fine after that.

Port forwarding set up to my computer:

Protocol Port Range Translate To ... Trigger Protocol Trigger Port

TCP 27000 - 27100 27000 - 27100 - -
UDP 1200 - 1200 1200 - 1200 - -
UDP 27000 - 27100 27000 - 27100 - -

Im in the UK with a 16mb connection, joining servers with under 100 ping.

    This happens to me as well, but the game is still in development and being optimized, so I was expecting those kinds of issues.

    i know its a beta, but we're talking a good 10-15 min of constantly rejoining servers over and over until it eventually works

    Added that the servers are either normally empty or full with a small selection..makes joining a game at times impossible.

    I just assumed this is something that can be fixed since i haven't seen it mentioned before..

    so what can I do about this? haven't been able to play at all this time - gave up after about 20 minutes of getting issues connecting to a server while other people are playing fine...

    its unusable to me

    I have this problem, but I'm currently on a very slow 128kbit/s connection.
    It useless for me to join games with more than 8-10 players.
    It seems to be happening, when the server download is hitting (maybe jamming) your max. download speed for longer than a few seconds, or maybe when your upload can't keep up with what's required from the server.
    This leads to my client dettaching itself from the server, visible entities are freezed in their position and animation state, I can fly through the map without being pulled back and other entities (static ones like res nodes and tech points aswell) aren't shown anymore.
    The error message "Connection problems detected.." keeps getting spammed though.

    Anyway, as mentioned above, the game will be optimized further and while I'm not sure if it is good for testing, I'd really welcome a command to turn of in-game voice and some kind of updaterate command to lower your connection load at the expense of accurate game info.

    So maybe it's your upload speed, or your routing or something jamming your connection.
    Have you tried waiting for a while in the ready room without doing anything after joining a server?

    I have this on all servers except one. I like to think I have a pretty decent internet connection (just cable), but I am considering upgrading and see if it will fix the problem..

    Not a very pleasant or cheap step to make tough..

    I've generally found this to be a server-side issue. Then again, I have a pretty decent connection, so I can't speak for others.

    Speed test from Edinburgh to Paris (I'm in Glasgow so in reality I might actually be a little faster)

    Ping: 38ms
    Download: 11.75Mbps
    Upload: 1.15Mbps

    Thats admittedly a little slower than I was expecting, but still fast enough to play even an unoptimised game surely?

    Do you guys all have dedicated lines to the NS servers?

    That's more than you'll ever need really. From what I can recall NS2 uses about 5-10 Kb\s down and up, so it's highly improbable your connection is incapable of delivering (unless perhaps you're sitting on a phone-line like pSyk0mAn). What's more likely is that the netcode of Spark cannot deal with rough conditions at this point, say, packet-loss due to data-corruption for example. Something like that could lead to constant connection-messages. Have a try with pingtest, if it returns a really poor result it could explain why NS2 won't budge, but other (more developed) titles like NS1 do.

    packet loss = 0
    ping = 40ms
    jitter = 1ms (jitter?)

    as I mentioned in the original post as well, if i manage to stay on a server for more than 2 minutes it is completly fine after that.

    I'm just after playing a 2hr long game!
