Mipmap-Settings

Hey,

I tried to lower the Mipmap-Settings in the Catalyst CC for better performance. When doing that, the fonts get all bleary. The fonts in the menu and the ones in-game (chat etc). But they should not be affected by texture-algorythms I think....?

It doesn't do that in other games.

Other games might not load any MIP levels other than base one or manually force it. You won't gain anything (almost sure) by playing with that setting. Use detail level in options to change how much memory textures should use (also what MIP levels to load).

Thx for the reply, actually it didn't help at all in NS2; but it helps me in other games (UT3-Based or Console-ports).

I think 1024 MB GFX-Ram should be enough?

But my question was, why do the fonts change when changing the setting? They are not textures in the 3D-Environment, or are they?

Yep, they are. Always have been. Rendering text as triangles would be insanely expensive. Most games use a "font rendering engine," such as FreeType. The glyphs are rendered as textures.

Oh, I see. Well, thanks for the clarification.
