Value Of Teamwork, And How Its Affects Balance.

Here it is... I played a game this morning where the marines lost the chair in 5 minutes. However, they survived for an hour afterwards becuz they had a rudimentary base and such, and most importantly... MOVED AS/WORKED AS A TEAM! They managed to keep us from maintaining two hives for very long.... in fact they almost won once or twice....

so.... for those of you who say the game is unbalanced towards one side or another, I suggest working as a team. That usually solves the big problems quickly.

yes, we should assume everyone wouldn't be able to hold a lmg or walk without running into a wall.

hell, we could turn this into a turn based RTS/FPS!

That way, everyone gets a fair chance to attack the other person!

you also forget that if they so choose aliens can use teamwork, and believe me a group of fades/lerks working together is hell.

Throw in a gorge to heal them, and you've got a pattern that will annoy the marines for hours! and dead marines can't expand, so as long as they're dead, they're not expanding.

yah, the game is balanced assuming the marines play as a team. However, how often does this happen in casual play?? If you exclude noobs and non-team players the marines are constantly down 2 or 3 people, depending on what servers you play on. The casual vs tournament play is the right idea, but casual play needs to assume there are a few marines who are dumb.

I agree about the whole teamwork issue. I was in a game this afternoon on eclipse. The alien team was securing their second hive. While the marines were busy taking maintenance, they did a skulk rush and took out our cc. Comm didn't build a new one. So we rallied together and tried for a rush against one of the hives. There was fade resistance, but we eventually managed to take eclipse hive. Then we moved onto computer core and won the game as la/lmg marines against fades with no commander. Now thats teamwork.

One of the things I think people have to think about is that you can't FORCE teamwork on people. So I think the game should be adjusted slightly to take that into account.

Look at it this way. Do you have a game that only 10% can have fun with (using extreme levels of teamwork) or do you make it so it is fun 90% of the time with 'moderate' teamwork?

Right now even one or two people not team work oriented can screw over the team. Team work makes NS a good game, but I think it asks for too high a level of team work from 'average' players.

    Regards,

    Savant
