Building A Computer

with parts from another
K, I want to build my own computer. But I know that my current one would then be just sit in a corner or something. So I though, hmm, why not just upgrade this one a whole bunch. Basicly I would be getting all the parts for a new computer except:
case and power supply
CD-RW
modem
floppy drive
hard drive
it's a Gateway, bout a year old I would guess and the only reason I have it in the first place is I won it at my Grad night.
Any comments? is it do-able? i would love to do it than build one from scratch, since i'de be saving about 200 atleast, and be able to do it sooner.

Alternately (and what I'd recommend), hit a computer show and pick up a cheap $20-40 case while you're getting the mobo/CPU. Usually places will give you a bit of a deal buying them together, and it's actually normally _cheaper_ to buy the case (with power supply included) than it is to just buy the PS on its own.
Other than that, it's definitely doable, and I wish you luck.
I've built a bunch of machines before (the dual-boot I'm running now, for instance), so feel free to PM me or whatever if you have any other questions!
Ive seen friends get a 2 gig processor and put 256 SDRam and wonder why their comp runs slow.
Also you don't have to go to a comp show just use places like:
Where to find deasls
Good place, very reliable (not necesarily the best bargins but trustworthy)?
another good place to buy stuff
yah, OL shopping can get you some goodies at decent prices, just remember to look around, ask some Qs here about mobos/cases etc and probabvly even post a link to what you think is best for your price range and ppl will coment
just remember that most of us are biased (I personaly love Mwave b/c I have NEVER had problems with em, got most of my stuff from them)
The case/ps/mobo combos you were referring to are known as "bare-bones" systems.
If you realy need help just talk to some one else who works there (I have LOTS of good experiances with bestbuy, they tend to be very knowladgable and willing to help)
