Screenshots and discussions about server games.
Last night/morning I had one of the most interesting games so far. I've always been thinking why UWE made NS2 games shorter then the NS1 games, but last night game really made me think if they actually made the opposite.
Last night's game lasted about three hours and the few people that managed to stay through out the entire game were all exhausted. That game showed me something I never knew about NS2 that personal resources had a limit. I was playing the game with 999 in personal resources and wasn't able to increase, please share your thoughts of the resources having a limit.
I don't know what is the common skill level in the Natural Selection 2 community but from what I've seen people choose their class depending on their own personal skill level and how pleasant the class feels to the individual. A good match with class and individual seem to result in domination (according to my own observation). Since I feel too unsure of the situation I won't grant me the opportunity to brag about what I've done, but I will tell you of what has happen.
I've always been terribly bad with such as Fade and Lerk from Natural Selection 1 and there for I've been terrified to try to new assets in Natural Selection 2 of the simple reason that I don't what to bring the team down. I just couldn't resist trying at least a little bit of the Fade blink ability and to my own surprise I was handling it pretty well.
So now to the point, last night we had a game lasting in about three hours and at the start of the game I was trying to prevent the marines to expand by attacking the Marine spawn and I earned a couple personal resources and a few deaths (to be more exact 6 deaths). After my failed attempt to prevent the Marines from expanding Alien commander successfully build our second Hive and had enough Personal Resources to evolve into a Fade. I was thinking that I won't to let the Marines know that I'm evolving so went on top of a cable in Reactor Core and as soon as I transformed into an egg I fell through the cable and right in between some railings. When I finally became to Fade I found out that I'm stuck and can't get out without writing "Kill" in the console. I respawned and now didn't have enough Personal Resources to go back to Fade. After one marine kill I went this time on the ground and successfully evolved into Fade without ending up stuck.
I was that Fade the rest of the game without one single Death (As Fade).

I commend the players in your game for sticking at it but you are all crazy people!

Great, thank you Corpsey! Your support was greatly appreciated!
Bragging about your scoreboard in a beta game is silly. A JP HMG marine would waste the best of the best fades. It happened in NS1 and it will in NS2.
Having a cap of 999 res is necessary for setting a limit in game.

I'm sorry if I made you upset with my thread. The point of the thread was to find out if it is common to have survived with a Fade in over two hours and introducing a new server.
I never ment any harm.
Should be 100, or 200.

You want to know the funny part of that?
I got that amount of personal resources about at half the game time, what I am saying is that would there be no limit I might have had about 2000 personal resources at the end of the game.
First of all, your score as fade is not unusual especially if you play it carefully as I do. Blink in and kill one or two, focusing on the most dangerous Marines such as the GL's and Flamers, and get out fast as soon as your armour is near zero. I scored 114-9 one night last week and I am by no means a good player. The trick is to know your limits and only attack groups of between 1 to 3 marines. Any more than that, and especially if they have flamers it becomes a lot harder and near suicidal. I see the word 'overpowered' used a lot when fades are getting high scores. This normally happens when Marines do not stay together and fades are then able to pick off marines at will and rack up huge scores. 4 or 5 Marines together with a variety of weapons and its then hard work for a Fade. The main problem with the Fade and the game in general atm is the hit reg and lag. When this is improved over the coming months the fade will not be nearlly as effective and easier to kill. A Fade will then have to pick his targets even more carefully. 3 shotgun hits will kill a fade but with the lag and hit reg as it is, that is not easy to do. There have been times I have shot a Fade point blank with a shotty and had no blood splat or hit noise and its obvious it hasnt registered at all.
Secondly I was surprised how the Marines managed to fight their way out of their base and build so much etc as they were pinned back for ages. They seemed to have an endless supply of team and personal res. I have never seen so many turrets and MAC's in a game before and considering they only had one res tower I couldnt help wondering how they could afford them. The ARC's kept coming too like they were on a buy 1 get 5 free sale. Every time me and Tekoppen blinked into Marine base to attack the CC there was at least 3 MAC's there to repair it and a stack of turrets and we gave up. Hard work with only 3 players though tbh. There was one funny point where me and Tekoppen as fades were trying to destroy the 8 or so turrets in Vent to give us another point to attack marine main and no sooner as we got anywere 3 or 4 MAC's would race out of base and repair them as we hit them then us trying to chase the MAC's which would move off at 100mph screaming ouch.
But, it was fun and the server was good and stable even with all the stuff going on....GG all.
Oh aye, and 999 personal res is a bit too much, must agree.

Ohh no, I wasnt upset, I was just pointing out that the current mechanics are not to be over analyzed. It's beta :)
This was not problem on server where player counts was so small ..
Anyways I have done the first pass on Swedish language for NS 2 and I hope it gets released with next patch so I can take some feedback and correct stuff where/if its needed.
I kept the names as they are to avoid confusion when players from diffrent countries play together, hope there are a couple of sweds here to help out.
Oh interesting I really thought it stopped adding personal resources after the 999 mark. If I ever run into such a situation again I have to try it out.
I was commenting on games of NS2 in general and not the game me and Tekoppen played on, just to clarify.

i swear to god, you clanners with your godlike ns1 honed aim are unbalancing the game! away with you! :p. jk
:) We we're trying to keep it balanced by being on opposite teams, but there is only so much you can do when the underlying mechanics are so out of whack.

I hope you stream it on justin.tv wich in its turn gets streamed to twitch.tv ( twich is only for gaming ) but both are linked so you only have to log into one of them, I say this because the gaming community in there is both huge, nice and helpful compared to other sites Ive been on.
Thank you for your advice, I will look into that and see what I can come up with. I really appreciate your support, thank you once again.
Marines were sieged at the only base in the start, people lost their hope mostly, but finally we decided to attack in a group and it was real success: slowly but steadily we got back whole place, clearing it from Alien structures till the last hive has finally fallen. It was the best experience as a marine player since i like teamwork and we finally had it, a lot of it!
Alien were really good as well, and Tekoppen was especially good at playing Fade, some people here say that the game is unbalanced, but hey, my personal max of playing Fade was like 10 min surviving which is like 5 attacks, so, i think even if the game is unbalanced it is still requires some skill to play =)
As to the server itself it is one of my favorite servers, it is stable and has nice ping compared to others while running day and night(still i hope to have some servers soon in the place where i live), also it has a nice habit of having long games, last/this week i already had like 3 games about 3 hours on the server. Special thanks to everyone who took part in the game and to Tekoppen for hosting! =D
Although players came and went we ended up in 5 Marines versus 3 Aliens and we won because the Marine com was the only one defending their base versus me (as Fade) and DeadMeat (as Skulk). We quickly destroyed the Marines Infantry Portals while the rest of the Marines were busy with destroying one of our hives. When they finally realize that their commander was dead and no one was there to command they quickly retreated to their base and found themselves portal less and full of wounds.
The game was fun and way too long (as usual). Aliens would have lost for sure unless the aliens didn't have attacked the enemy commander as they did.
I like the people of Natural Selection 2, you make the game fun! People from all around the world stop by for a peek at my server, I had someone from US on my server earlier today and that was amazing that they had such a good connection to my server (seems unrealistic but what can you do when he was on the server with good ping?).

Now, to the point, GreenFlame,Tekoppen and I found an amusing bug, when we played on the SWE Games server recently. The bug makes an alien player spawn from the marines infantry portal as a skulk. This seem only to occur when a player joins random while they are marine at ready room and ends up joining the Alien team.
Here is some footage which show the fourth time or something (did not really keep track) when Greenflame spawns as an alien at the IP. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhp3ZEbyZ6M )
So what do you think is this the next step for the aliens evolution, have they gain the ability to eat up marines from the inside or will we finally be able to have our own pet skulks as marines? Discuss
(I apologize in advance for any spelling errors and other grammar errors that you may find in this post)

Indeed it was strange when Greenflame join Alien and he suddenly said "I'm at Marine Start". We were worried that this strange bug was some sort of a one time only event but we managed repeat it over four times. After watching the result we decided to record the event (as already mentioned). Although the Skulk spawning at the Marines Infantry Portal wasn't happening every time, but we found some kind of similarities such as joining random.
I think the [184] build has brought us a few bugs that the poor developers is most likely taking care of as we s,,, I speak.
