What sort of monitor do you have?
And yes there is a file which you can manually specify resolutions, but whether or not the game will respect "invalid" resolutions or just pick the closest, or even fail to launch is unknown to me.

I think there is a xml config file somewhere, and the resolution is in it. It will probably work when you edit it manualy. Now you just have to find out where it is..
Although I just tried adjusting mine to 1000x720, and went ingame and it was set to 1024x768. Although my monitor tells me its set to 1920x1080 (native). So I'm not sure what to believe. After launching the game, the config file is also set to 1024x768, so my guess is that custom resolutions are not yet supported.
This will probably not work, but you can try to set the config to "read-only" after you set it to the desired resolution. could be worth a shot. You could also try and change it to windowed mode.
well i havent preordered yet and before i do i want to make sure im able to play the game on my resolution, if not then ill just wait and keep checking in to see if there is a way.
I don't know about full screen mode, but you can run in Windowed mode at any resolution you want, and it is almost as good. You still have to write-protect your config file.

the closest resolutions I'm seeing in the options menu are 1600x900 and 1680x1050
But with so many screen sizes out there, the game is bound to adjust itself to fit yours. maybe not in the beta but probably launch.

do you think it wil automatically put in my custom desktop setting for me to choose?
counter-strike source and other source games have my resolution
