Why Comms Not Droping Healthpacks?

I guess I now know why...
I commanded today, well I tried.
Soon figured, that all the technologie is very expensive...

So... some commanders drop no healt cause it is cheaper if we die?

Yes. If you're sitting at spawn with an LMG, knife, pistol, and 15 health, just try a kamikaze run. I only drop health on my guys that are in the middle of a firefight, or attempting to hold a vital position. If you're out running around on your own, not going to the waypoints I give you, you're not getting any health, ammo, or equipment.

Unless I have some sort of worthwhile upgrade (usually HA), then I'm the first to charge into a firefight or make myself generally expendable.

My motto is: "It's cheaper to respawn."

As a sometimes commander, I can tell you that I won't give health to folks who are:

Not accomplishing anything

ignoring orders

whining

hiding in base, letting the equipment get damaged

not using the menu or telling me a room name

Additionally, I'd rather save up an get and hmg or grenade launcher that will make a difference then dump 5 health packs in the middle of my base while the fades are splashing everything with acid. This is really the only time I'll actively ignore requests for health. If you don't have an expensive weapon/armor and our base is getting nailed by fades, it's much better for the team if everyone charges out of the base to push the aliens back.

Most of that list of actions will bump you down the priority list for getting a new gun too.

A lot of times I end up politely telling, then cursing quite loudly at Commanders for feeding lots of health packs to me when I'm in the room next to the spawn and at 50 health. It's hard to explain to them (for whatever reason; I just suspect a general lack of intelligence) that Joe LMG doesn't NEED health, especially RIGHT NEXT TO THE BASE.

But then when I've got my Shotgun, out defending a base solo waiting for backup...they never can seem to find me those health packs when people actually NEED them. But I'm sure the guys with LMGs in the base are still getting them.

I see this a lot of time with ammo packs too... "Oh the Armoury is upgrading (as inoften as that actually happens)...so here's 20 Ammo Packs." Meanwhile none of these guys are actually using more than 100 bullets before they die ANYWAY.

I fairly often find myself asking for stuff over voice coms or via chat, this is for a simple reason, 'com I need a medpack' makes NOISE.

If the aliens hear you say 'com I'm in position' your sneaky sneaky creaping into their base is all completly wasted, when I 'rambo' I always *ALWAYS* trying to get into position to build a gate so we can dump in a tone of marines and get a siege or hive killing operation on the go, I did it twice succesfully in a game earlier today (sneaked into generator got up gate got backup got turrets, sneaked into vestibule got up gate got up turrets). Of course I only rambo when I belive the com's stratagy is the 'Lets capture and hold 1 hive and as many res points as we can with.. 1001 turrets! *Groan*

We only lost the game because I was made part of the assult team and so I stopped cycling the gates keeping everything peachy and something blew up sewer without the com or any of the other guys noticing. *sigh*

Much like catgirl, I am constantly telling commanders that drop health packs on me without me asking to stop wasting the resources. They are expensive, and they make a loud noise when dropped, and will alert any nearby aliens to your presance.

As a commander, the only time health packs should be used are to heal marines who are on a mission for you, the more critical, the more health packs are a usful option. I absolutely get sick of the players who take a little damage during the opening alien rush, then start asking for health packs. Then when I explain that it is cheaper for them to die, and that we don't have the resources for health packs, they say I am not a good commander. No, I don't get offended by the name calling (in these situations, there is usually 2 or 3 good marine players that are happy to back-up my position) but their lack of regard for the economy of the game. I mean, I typically peg these players as people who have never played an RTS before, it's not a bad thing, but sheesh, this isn't Quake we're playing...

Pin them to the floor with a turret for now I say .

But, REALLY we need a 'force suiside of soilder' option. Would be absolute magic when used in conjunction with distress beacon for when you're in trouble. I mean can you imagine it, the aliens have taken down the TF, there's 4 skulks in base calmly the commander orders the suiside of all his marines, calls in distress and they all spawn in base

Might be a nice clan tactic, get your marines to all bind a key to 'kill' and then when you need it order one squad to suiside and distress them into base all at once

EDIT> If no one posted of the suiside then distress befor can it be called 'ghosting back to base'

    Off-topic:
Heh - it seems you're a particularly callous commander to order the suicide of your own men
But this seems like a valid strategy, actually. For those of you who play WCIII, it'd be like a TP Scroll. Interesting.

    Back on topic:
Yes, it is true that basic LMG marines really aren't worth dropping medpacks unless they are doing something important. I never ask for or expect to receive a medpack unless I've got some special equipment. Respawns are free, as I understand, so with a proper phase-gate infrastructure, it's actually easier for you to die and get back into the fight. Also remember that medpacks cannot restore skulked-up armour and a respawn grants you a fresh new suit as well.

ahhh wut if a person can be healed with only ONE medpack.. which costs two RP

and the person dying also costs two RP

id give the medpack.... cuz then.. it takes time to spawn.... and blocks up the IFs.... cuz i only make two... dont need nymore than that... and plus.... time is money... if one medpack can heal a guy,... and u tell him to kil urself... u hafta wait for him to respawn and regroup to move out... it all deepends... if it takes 2 medpacks to heal the person.. kil him then.. =p

Spawning takes ONE RU, not two. That being said, people whine for two medpacks, which is 3 RUs more than just killing themselves.

Now this is exactly why a Medkit should be included in the next upgrade

Costing 5 res, heals any marine slowly and takes up primary weapon slot

To get an end to the "Ned helt in b4se!!!" spammings

The only time I ask for a medpack with base equipment is if I'm on guard duty. This only really happens at the beginning of the game before we have our phase gates.

As commander, I like to heal up the forward attack force, even if they are only hurt a little, because respawning costs time, and in the field, that can be more important than 10 resources.
