As long as this doesn't impact the gameplay in ANY way and it meshes perfectly with the existing Art Design, I say bring it on. If it's outside either of those two, please for the love of all that is holy/NS, NO!
If i remember right, player customization was a plan in the beginning, therefore there was a female marine, too. The concept showed Full Helmet and open ones, where you could see the face. It was very nice made. So if the dev's are ready with the core things, maybe they'll put up some extra customization features.
why was this revived? I think I know. Seriously, though, I don't want hats in ns2 aside from very special occasions (preordering the special edition gets you black armour for example).
If you put hats into ns2, it will only be a matter of time before ns2 turns into tf2. I don't play tf2 because of hats, and trading.
I used to play tf2 when it was younger, and it was great... wasn't super sily, but now, I never play tf2, and don't want to not play ns2.
Can we please drop this thread now? I just don't want hats in ns2, I'm sure some people want them in, but most would agree that hats in ns2 is a bad idea.
I want my TF2 Spy wearing a NS2 marine helmet, maybe a ns2 pistol for mah scout or something. I want ns2 to be the same, thank you. In Red Orchestra, you don't see Germans pimpin' out their Panzer Tanks, do you?

And on the topic: It would completely destroy the great atmosphere of the game, and it would be one big troll party.

Wow dude stop breaking your glasses because of console kids!
This is exactly why I stopped playing Hat Fortress. And it's more acceptable in that envinronment. NS2 hats in TF2? Fine, whatever. TF2 hats in NS2? No sir! You will ruin the atmosphere of the whole game.
I would not mind having customizable armor models, or even just alternate armor models, and maybe other armor colors to choose from, as well as a similar setup for aliens. BUT, armor colors should be restricted to drab colors that don't disturb the mood, we don't need any hot pink Frontiersmen running around now do we? I hesitate on the colors though, because I think it may devalue the black armor that came with the special preorder. The whole point of it was to distinguish those who showed early faith in the game, were willing to put a little extra money into the project, and have been even more patient for a working game than the beta players. It's a visual symbol of the "eternal gratitude" we were promised. Add new colors for marine armor, and suddenly some of those black marines will disappear, I fear. A decal system would be cool though, but totally unnecessary, and would probably take too much time and effort to implement. Maybe in V1.5.
And for the love of God, NO system that involves real money. The rare hats in TF2 back in the day were cool, but the "Mannconomy" explosion is not. DLC is a dangerous road to travel down, because people like me are very wary of it. I paid for the game, I should have all of the features. Luckily, this game is going to support custom mods and maps from what I can tell, and that makes DLC worthless (why do you think MW2 was the first COD game that made you pay for maps, and simultaneously the first one what forced you onto what ever player-hosted server it wanted to?) If you want silly hats, make a mod for it. I'm not opposed to expansion packs for games, devs coming out and saying "Hey! we thought of some really cool ideas and we've put them all together and enhanced the game! Please support our effort!" Good paid DLC nowadays is done in the same spirit. Bad paid DLC is taking elements out of the final game in order to force players to spend extra money on them, or charging $15 for 4 freaking maps (which NS2 can't do anyways), or making people pay for in-game items that were supposed to be there just for fun to begin with.
I also fear a system that involves GAME money, because of the "achievement effect", or "people playing the game with the objective of obtaining achievements (or money), and not the way the game was intended to be played", which in this case could seriously detriment teamwork in pub play.

What's the point of black armor if there's going to be cooler customizations ? All of the preorderer's will feel cheated..............
also: i couldnt care less.
i doubt that they would do that anyway, black armor & red visor might be a unique combo only available for SEOs
