Upgrading to an i5-2500k @ 4.7 GHz has just got me into the "playable" range of fps, but far from satisfactory.

I guess a lot of people don't know/understand that NS2 at the moment only really cares about clock speed on one core of your CPU. So basically the higher your GHz, the better. Anything below 4 GHz will be pretty bad, anything below 3 GHz will be unplayable. SSD and a decent amount of RAM should also help a little bit. GFX card doesn't matter much.

But while I'm here, Cygone I'm sure that rig can run Crysis OK, but will it play Doom?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Actually it will paly Doom, but it wont play NS1, due to issues with OpenGL (Error code 4). Grr if anyone know how to fix it please let me know.

Tho I am sure thier is some truth in this (and alot of it), I would like to point out that I gained about 8fps from OCing my GPUs by about 20% last night. Upfrom 607 clock to 850 (and the voltage to match). 88FPS and this game looks and play like a charm

Why would you buy a new rig for the BETA of ns2?

The engine is the main problem right now i think, not your machine. It's hardly optimized, still consumes a load of ressources and needs alot of tweaking.

    Just saying.

I think a more apt question is, Why wouldnt you upgrade such a slow PoS?

Although I want people to make as much noise as possible about the performance so it doesn't get swept under the rug, you can't expect any modern game to play with those specs?

    Comparison;

    i7 950 @ 3.5GHz

There is something seriously wrong with your rig Sherpa.

    I have an i7 920 @ 3Ghz
    1.28Gb 470GT
    12GB RAM
    Win7 64bit

    = ~60fps @ 1080p.

What the hell kind of resolution are you running man!

    If I run single GPU

    i7-920 @ 4.4 GHz
    1.2GB 470GTX
    12 GB RAM
    Win7 64bit

= 40ish FPS at 1680x1050 (full screen not windowed) max settings

60FPS seems extreme to say the least.

call a lie on this one, i can get very playable frames early to mid game 40+ fps (drops to 20-30 when looking at xroads and certain bugged parts of maps), it is only late game where the bad optimization (client and server) really shines, and crap hits the fan.

    i7-950 3.8 ghz
dual 6950's shader unlocked and oced to 6970's
    6 gb ddr3 1600
    no ssd =)

oh and running at 1600p on my 30"

Wont cost me a great deal, will prolly make money on the sale of the GPUs, (will sell them with water blocks on), I need a new mb/cpu and ram for a new media box, so they will also go to a good home. PSU will prolly get binned (none modular), and I have never liked the case, will prolly get a 650D, HHDs etc will be moved over to new rig.

nice, so your into water cooling? if so the 800D is probably the way to go. if air silverstones ft02 case best on the market atm, though it also depends on your price range as those cases arent cheap ^^.

Price is not an issue, but my case sits on the desk, it needs to be smaller than the 1200 in height, and water cooling will be removed as its far far far to loud.

the ft02 which i have, is about midtower high though it is fairly long (sits on my desk as well), about full tower length, check out the exac specs for more details, but the thing is a beast powered with 3 180mm fans that you can increase the speed to with switches on top for those heavy gaming sessions. dust filters covers all intakes, sound reduction foam on pannels. cable management could be better, but i manage to hide the majority of my 1000w away so i have no complaints
