<div class="IPBDescription">A Sand Box Mod for NS2 (Details Within)</div><img src="http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i50/benjamin385/Iwantyouss13originalquote.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />

What is Space Station 13?

Space Station 13 was a 2D game that had ALLOT of cool and AWESOME features built into it.

Some of them being -

Atmosphere - You could loose atmosphere and Critical Systems if certain parts of the station were damaged enough ( Life Support, Power, Etc. )
Construction/Destruction - you could literally take the station apart (Most games that I have played that is what happened) On the flip side people would try to keep the station running as long as possible.
Dynamic Lighting - The lighting in the game was some what dynamic and limited what you could see.
Jobs/Roles - Roles included Positions of authority as well as various mundane roles. (Security, Captain, Janitorial, Medical, Computer AI, Etc. )
and Loads more.

So what is this Mod?

This is a Sandbox Mod that aims to recreate the glory of Space Station 13 on the NS2 Engine.

Some of the things that I have planned are -

A Massive Space Station in the Style of the Classic Space Station 13
Access able Inventory and equip able Items - Multi tools, Stun Sticks, Combat Rifles, Wrenches, etc.
In Game Mumble Support - <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=114904" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index....howtopic=114904</a>
NPC's (Non Player Characters) - E.g. Janitors, Medical Personnel, etc.
System Failure - Life Support (Atmosphere) , Power (Lights) , etc.
Destruction / Construction - The ability to destroy / Place Objects
Roles - The Classic Space Station 13 Roles will be faithfully revived
Game Modes -

*Sandbox - A Role Play / Introductory game mode with no set goals (If the station is destroyed then the mode restarts)
*Traitor - One person is selected to be a traitor out of the entire crew - The Traitor has a 'secret' objective that must be completed before attempting an escape.

---

What do I bring to the table for this mod?

I can map out the entire space station and rooms as well as 3D model the various assets needed.

Below is a list of positions that can be filled for now at least -

Game play Programmer

*Must be experienced in LUA (You do NOT need to know it like a religion)
*Good Work ethic and Get it done attitude.

I will be posting up screen shots of the level and various props that will be included in the Mod.

Stay tuned :)

I really wish you luck on that, unfortunately, I don't know how to code, so all I can support you with is this post ;S

    regards,
    Megarith

What he said, only using my name.

Edit: But seriously, I do really hope this get's done. It's an awesome game, and playing it on spark would be lovely.

Headclot that isn't your art. Please don't steal from our community and pass it off as your own.

Just to clarify, i'm working on a remake in 2D that is already pretty heavily underway: <a href="http://www.Spacestation13.com" target="_blank">www.spacestation13.com</a>

Eh, that's about as silly a complaint as also calling your avatar theft which I will right now:
    <img src="http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090712073347/mrmen/images/9/9b/Mr.grumpy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
My avatar is not mine either of course, I'm just making a point.

He never claimed the picture as his own creation either. If he had I could see a reasonable point to your post.

Though if it's your's or that community's just like if the maker of Mr.grumpy decided to tell you to change your avatar or else (not that they ever would, they don't care as long as you aren't making money with it, probably), I guess that's your right, but it's also mine to point out how silly, petty and over-reactive I think that is.

As for slightly more relevant Comments: Though I'm sure that 2D remake is nice the original is already 2D so I'm hoping this turns out to be a 3D thing perhaps or at least 2.5D (ugh, I hate that term, but it gets the point across nice..), as this engine would easily allow.

If you cannot see the difference between the two then I'm not really even going to get into it. But your argument is ridiculous.

Good luck, but i have no idea what this mod will be.
So its some kind of "space station sandbox simulation"?
    Sounds epic in my mind.
But public people can be *** you know what i mean...but a ban will fix it.
Maybe some backup every 30 minutes, just to protect the "actual state" against people who destroy the fun.

I'd like to thank Enstorm from the official SS13 forums for notifying me of this
I've left sources for all the art I've posted there and you easily could have asked me to use it rather than just take it
since you didn't have the courtesy to do that then I would formally request you change your header image.
  • KurrineKurrine Join Date: 2010-07-03 Member: 72235Members
I'm quite aware of there being a difference, Norm, but as far as I'm concerned it's a minor contextual thing that really isn't relevant to me.

You've expressed your perspective, I've provided mine, what more is there really when either side can't agree? Legal grounds, and you've got that! Haha.

Hawt Koffee's post is better worded, rather than jumping to conclusions of Headclot passing it off as their own, and if it's Hawt Koffee's art or who ever they're speaking for and they really want it down, that's again their right to see it taken down.

I've worded how I feel about this but, you can't argue with a nicely worded formal request, it's more than most would bother with as we've already seen.

Perhaps though you can chat about it or something, maybe add a source link or a credit? It really is a fairly humorous header and would be a shame to see it removed, it so nicely stared the thread off on a good tone. Granted that tone has been a bit ruined since.

Good luck. I doubt you will ever get it done unless you get a group of dedicated programmers.
I coded/sprited (majorly) hydroponics for /tg/station and even that was quite a messy process. But BYOND is BYOND.

I think that the biggest problem you'll have with the mod isn't the programming - if you want to make a faithful 3D reproduction of the original you'll need a small army of artists to make all the assets. The difference in time it takes to make a crowbar in a 25x25 2d icon and in a fully textured 3d model is quite considerable, and imagine scaling that up to every other object in the game...

Admittedly being based on NS2 you could borrow a lot of the scenery models from the game itself, but you'll need to make all the other assets look believable. Because people's graphical expectations are going to be so high it's no mean feat.

There have been many failed remakes of SS13 in the past that have abandoned ship because of exactly this. The original only really worked in a practical sense because of its low graphical requirements and its reliance on one's own imagination to fill in the blanks, and this is also why Supernorn's project is far more likely to succeed where others have failed.
