It seems to, anatomically, be normal to have the upper limbs of the onos supinated (facing forward), based on these pictures of an elephant skeleton and gorilla skeleton.
Elephant skeleton (image is too large for me to insert): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...nt_skeleton.jpg Gorilla skeleton:
There is a small problem with the positioning of the forearms of the gorilla skeleton in the picture though. From what I have read about knuckle walking, it seems that the palms of the hands are turned inwards such that the radius and ulna do not cross. Thus the gorilla skeleton may not be in the natural position for knuckle walking.
But to be fair everything I know about animal anatomy is from Wikipedia and the onos may not even have a gait or musculoskeletal system similar to a gorilla. (Though odds are it will have a gait similar to that of a gorilla based on what Cory said and the fact that the devs need an animal to model its movements after).

Good luck to the animators making him look really spectacular in play! I have a feeling the Onos' movements will show a lot of life/organic movement. I think making the design style more gorilla-like was a good choice.
A question on the Onos release, though: as far as the overall development goes -- have you all reached that point of comfortability to move on to more game content or is this release being done based on time constraints/schedule? I'm glad it's being added sooner than later since I'm not one of those people who throw a fit about game balance in mid development.

quick question on the flickering lights and environment reaction to onos. So when the onos becomes cloaked will the environment still react to an onos being near by? If so, then I think that be really awesome in a way and gives marines a chance to react and prepare for an oncoming attack.

Presumably, if the onos is cloaked, it's either stationary or moving very slowly, so I don't know why the lights would flicker. I hope the current ability to move at full speed while cloaked is changed in the future.
tactical wise a cloaked onos will be amazing, have an onos sit in the middle of a halway from marine start to a 2nd base, while most other aliens destroy the base, as soon as marines come they will hit an invisible wall that then suddenly beats the living daylight out of them out of no where :D
Wondering btw, with the knockback, will the marines actually become airborn? cuz then you might be able to push them out of the lvl in for example crevis on summit

This actually happened a lot in NS1 and it was really annoying to play against as marines. :-/

heh, especially when you run down a hall minding your own business then instantly find yourself in an onos stomach out of nowhere.

Although it's amazingly funny to do if you're the Onos. As a marine you get to spend 30 idle seconds thinking about why you chose THAT empty and deserted hallway to walk down...

I know, but now you can be thrown in a pit by the gore kickback. Minding your own business running by crevice, then the next second you're falling in the pit. Fun.
It'll be great because taking away a players ability to actually play is really annoying, especially for like 30seconds.. At no time should you lose control of your character unless if you're dead.

Thus I feel the removal of player control temporarily (for 1-3 seconds) is a much better way of spicing up game play.
Of course, (re Onos Devour) staring at a visual representation of the stomach of an Onos was adding a little too much insult to injury. Since the hopes of rescue were so slime, it would have been better to kill the devoured Marine quickly.
The planned knock-back attack sounds great. The Onos is designed to be extremely tough, with the tradeoff of having a relatively weak attack against players. It will most likely be capable of scatter a group of Marines so the other aliens can pick them off, much like the Tank in L4D.

If they had devour, I wonder how the animation would play out. Since in NS1, you just disappeared, it looked a little silly but awesome for its day. NS2 devour would probably look awkward. lol

I mean sure it's a gorilla now, but that probably shouldn't be it's most common tactic.
