Volumetric effects?

Are we planning on putting Volumetric effects into the game eventually? I know it's a crazy pie-in-the-sky request, but I think it would really add a lot to the game and help you stand apart from the pack even further. Like if you light up a FT in an open room, it doesn't go very far and it spreads out as it burns, but if you shove the nozzle in a vent it would go a lot farther and burn hotter because of the volumetric space constriction.

We could even hook the big fans up to the power nodes in a room, and make things like lerk spores volumetric. If the aliens have the node down, then the fans stop and the spore clouds linger for a while - but then the rines take the room and repair the node, thus starting the fans and sucking all the spores out of the room. Maybe have the vents have air flow in certain direction. Flamers wouldnt do much from one end due to the flow coming back in your face, but put them on the other end and you can cook the entire vent end-to-end. Lerks could just glide in and the current would express lane them to the other end.

I think it's worth looking into as you enter this "adding new features" phase.

Yes, it's planned for the not-too-distant future.

    You don't have one already?!

My fission reactor is on pre-order and has been for the past 2 years.

That's not what we're talking about.

Man, that is so cool! Innovation rocks.

Not sure if Max is talking about the same type of volumetric effects as you, I think he talks about the one in the video.
I agree it would look very cool, but imo it would quite very heavy performance wise (I know Stalker has this effect on smokes)
So I wouldn't recommend it for gameplay stuff like lerk spores being aspired by fans etc... Because some config could probably not handle this and it should be possible to disable it. But yeah, if you just had it on some steam effect through wich you could see anyway, it would be cool!
