On November 18 2010 UWE removed the check for the Special Edition pre-orders, officially beginning the Natural Selection 2 Beta
It has been one year since then, and upon retrospect I think we can all agree this game has made tremendous strides in development.
Let us look back to the earlier days of this game and see how much things have changed.

Now then take a look at how far the game has gone:

Thus far we have seen numerous advances that did not exist prior to the Beta including but not solely:
-Fades
-Flame throwers
-Shade alien structure
-An excellent community map: ns2_Summit made an official map.
-ARCs
-Significant performance updates
-A vibrant competitive community
-And let us not forget one of the most important, Dynamic Infestation
It is warranted that UWE be applauded for their exceptional efforts, being a small Indie developer, to create a game meeting and perhaps one day surpassing the standards of the modern gaming industry. It clearly has shown to be a unique but rigorous process, and despite all adversity, UWE has managed to pull through and continues to display outstanding commitment and perseverance to this day.
There is no telling what the future may hold for Natural Selection 2 and for UWE, but with more graphical improvements, community made levels, additional performance gains and much more coming in the near future, we can look on with confidence that Natural Selection 2 will become a phenomenal game.
Let us celebrate a year of an excellent display of open indie game development, and another one to follow in the bright future ahead.

Also, I think we need that 'skulk-in-a-globe' in a map :)
But hurrah! May the game improve evermore!
