Is it possible to get some kind of refund If i give up the pre-order?
I'm having serious performance issues and guess I just underestimated what kind of specs that was needed to play the game.
It looks great and i love the concept, I just cant enjoy it right now, so until I get a better PC or upgrade it I'm not really interested in playing, and Im not to keen on spending a fortune on a new PC at the moment, maybe at the release day though ;)

Just wait for build 190, i guess the actual peformence issue will be fixed then!
Right now its kinda tricky to play, i play since the alpha and the builds before 189 were way better ;-)
That said, if you are certain about a refund, e-mail store@unknownworlds.com with your details.
Having prolly 15-20fps, maybe 10 when more than 2 people are fighting, that for me is unplayable, do you really think that's gonna get fixed when its fully optimized?
I'm under the impression that other s computers are playing it well, judging by videos etc

I've been in the same position as you up until the last patch (Although it still could be better). I think they are adding in anonymous hardware reporting the next patch. If you could at least stay for that, then they can find out exactly what machines have trouble.

True, but game performance is improving. This isn't like a released game where if you have bad performance today, you're out of luck.
Also, for comparison, here are my specs and fps (range is like 40-70fps depending on the situation):

QUOTE

Intel i5 2500k (OC'd 4.3GHz)
4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
AMD HD 6950
Windows 7 x64
1920x1080 @ high settings, no AA/AF
Atmospherics off
However, as shown in this thread, my fps has definitely improved over the course of the beta:
BUILD / AVG FPS #1 / AVG FPS #2
162 / 55 / 58
164 / 50 / 51
188 / 63 / 67

Those that can actually run the game and record at the same time play on very good PC's. Right now I don't think even UWE know what the system requirements will be at 1.0.
Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz (4 CPUs)

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
The main thing bugging me is that theres no performance difference if compare highest settings to "ridiculously bad"
Hey Pontus,
I feel your pain man.
When I play I get a maximum of 26fps if I stare at a blank wall.
Realistically while playing I'll range anywhere from 8-20fps.
I play on a macbook pro with windows xp boot-camped. Here are my specs.
MacBook Pro
Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Memory: 4 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 320M
And yes everyone will lol at these specs and I will lol with them :)
Anyways, while playing it is unplayable in the means that I will get lucky to get one kill. But to me this is all a part of it and I force myself to have fun in other ways. This usually means helping my team by checking the map and letting everyone, including the commander, know what's going on.
I say keep the game and wait it out. I keep reminding myself that this is still in beta and that the game specs they posted are for the final release of the game.

First game I tried was NS2! - WOW! - what a difference!
My fps has somewhere between doubled and tripled, compared to the previous rig.
For the first time I can actually enjoy the game at a smooth framerate. And what a game it IS! It actually feels very polished even at this stage! The environments and graphics (and lighting) look spectacular! All the tiny tidbits like icons for weapons on the ground, use key indication, stuff on marine HUD, etc, really give me a nice and fresh whole impression of the game. Not to mention all the new effects like nades, fire+smoke, ARC, etc.
All I can say to my fellow NS2 players is, just wait until you can play it smoothly - if you don't love NS2 yet, you most certainly will then!
UWE, keep up the amazing work! You are definitely on the right path...
I now get pretty stable fps all the time with a minimum of 40 at the most demanding moments.
However, there's still some short freezes or single stutters from time to time.
Network performance still needs work, not as much for marines, but definitely for aliens, as I'm biting air mostly as skulk, when in NS1 80%+ would have been hits (now it's like 30%).
Often nade explosion animation don't play and sometimes not the sound either, which makes one think the nade glitch-disappeared, but dmg seems to still be dealt.

I hope this helps some.

You shouldn't be recommending overclocking a CPU to play a game. It's as responsible as telling someone to flash their BIOS.
You need well over 4 ghz right now which hes cpu will not achieve.
Pontus900 if its just the frame rates that keep you from playing you should just wait and worry about more proficient things than 35 bucks.
Smooth is a relative word. My fps gained a significant boost going from 3.3 to 4.3 ghz and I still wouldn't call it smooth.
The i5 2500k has a max turbo frequency of 3.7GHz, which is what its probably running at when your playing NS2. That's almost as close you can get to 4.0GHz with an unOCd CPU (only beaten by the i7 2600k and 2700k iirc).

Wouldn't get to hot

Has enough juice to run stable

Bragin' rights :P

So yeah, can an on the fly "speed booster" do all that and actually make it run 100% stable?
What you are describing is actually pushing it past its specifications.
But I guess, this false advertising you speak of is valid. Hey as long as it runs smooth and stable, I wont complain. but if it doesn't it might explain a few issues people have with NS2. the i5/i7 might have the muscle to brute force it, but if it's not running stable it might still be an issue even with all the horsepower these things have.
i5 2500k @ 3.3Ghz (CPU-mark 7,468) is about 3.8x E6420 @ 3.2Ghz (CPU-mark 1,961) if PassMark CPU benchmark is any indicator :D
don't expect any miracles, but i really notice the difference when not using the commands: sometimes, the fact that the game runs slower than usual actually reminds me that i forgot to use them.
in console, type:
r_atmospherics false
r_shadows false
r_bloom false
r_shadowsfade false
Intel's Turbo Boost depends on the number of cores actually being used. You won't get to 3.7GHz if you have 4 cores under load. It also saves some power, as it only overclocks when needed. Intel wouldn't be as stupid as to let their CPUs overclock automatically beyond stable limits.
Additional automatic overclocking ilike "AI NOS" is mostly useless, since it's hard to test whether it's stable and the voltage needs to be increased upfront, because it only changes clock speed. Increased voltage even when not under load means that power savings won't be that high and it will run really hot depending on how high you need to set the voltage.
I overclocked my Q6600 from 2.4 to 3GHz and set it to 3.3GHz for NS2 only, so it doesn't wear out that fast. Made the game playable for me again. Gave me about +5fps or more. It's not that much, but very noticable at framerates around 20fps.
I don't really know whether I should set my RAM to 1:1 frequency with FSB or have it underclock a bit when on 3GHz normally and overclock a bit when I set it to 3.3GHz. I have it at a 6:5 ratio right now, putting me at 400/440MHz (or 800/880 effectively). Differences in performance from changing RAM timings and clock speed are hard to notice, so I don't like to fiddle with that too much, since RAM can be pretty sensitive to overclocking (as in calculating 1+1 results in 5612519).
Wait, we're pretty off-topic now, aren't we? Sorry.

Wow should be fine, I'm running a Q6600 @ 2.62ghz, 8gb ram and a 768mb 8800gtx @ 1680x1050, high settings.
Sure I;m not getting a high frame rate, but it is definitely playable and Im usually in the top quarter score wise with kills.
My three year old Core2 E8400 @ 3.8ghz with a Radeon 4850 512MB card with the latest Win7 64bit drivers from AMD, 1680x1050 on high settings, ran most maps with 10-12 people around 40-50fps with very few drops under 30fps.
In the earlier betas (150s) it was definitely more choppy, especially on tram, getting probably 20-40fps, but it has improved quite a lot since then. I haven't played since beta 184, but I'd imagine based on the reports that it has improved further.
Are you sure you guys with decent rigs are running with the latest drivers, don't have AA or any kind of advanced post processing effects force enabled in their drivers, and aren't suffering from hardware stability issues? I'd imagine some cases are fixable.
