IMHO flying is fine. For Lerk flap less and hold your forward key. For marine, just tap the jump button whle holding your forward key. It's a jet pack, not superman's cape. Flying takes a little practice but I think it works fine.

JP's are fine. It's Lerk which takes a little TOO getting used to. But once you've got it, well, who cares anyway?

Maybe a bit more instruction on gliding for people should be done? (I.E, holding it down as a Lerk)

Oh c'mon people.

I'm no master lerker or anything but flying is as easy as walking in real life. It's a matter of timing the flaps so you stay in the air. I bet the people who can't fly have no rythym.

Who wants a flap to carry them forward? I often find myself wanting to fly backwards. It's much better fly backwards facing your opponent so you see where they are going. You got to get spacially aware people.

Can you imagine seeing an enemy and jumping up to fly away and you fly towards them? Unless I'm trying to assault a lone marine that usually isn't the case. I'd like to be able to fly without getting shot to pieces.

People who want the system so that you fly forward are just newbs at flying. You can't expect to go down a hallway if you hit spacebar 5 times in a second, you have to work it Mabey i'll record a demo of my elite skillsand show them how to do it.

Yes leave my lerk alone thank you, making it go forward would mess up my evasive manuevers

The JP on the other hand could use a bit of help in that its thrust need to be toned down so you don't go through the roof when you tap it

i think the Lerk is great. You just have to master the flying technique, which is cool anyway. I have recently started playing Lerk way more for the fact that i can fly like an eagle now. kicks **obscenity**.

Actually, I think the tribes 1 J-pax beats it too

I think it's fine though, the j-pax is meant to gain access, and to provide extra mobility in large (hive) rooms. It does this perfectly.

BTW, Any Idea how hard it is to kill a good lerk in the great viaduct hive

How are you supposed to hover or fly backwards if your flaps always propel you forward? I think its just perfect, people just need to remember "easy does it", a little flap goes a long way.

if you need practice flying just use the Hera Entrance Walkway and don't hit the things on the celing.

most thrust for lerks/jps loks sorta like this:

|
.|
..|
..|
...|
....|

people want it to look like so:

|
...|
.......|
...............|
.......................|

so that you don't constantly hit the cealing (it makes sense for lerk, but not for JPs)

press space as a marine with a jetpack, you'll go upward.
press space as a lerk, you'll go forward.
you need to glide with lerk if you want to go forward while you need to burst jump as a marine.
you have to burst jump with a lerk to go upwards, and you just have to keep your jump key pressed as a marine.

I think it's ok like it is. But you need a lot of practice.

I don't get it...

You mean that they want people to learn how to fly better?
Or is it that they want the flying code changing?

basicaly people want it so that each lerk 'flap' pushes them more foward then up so that they can travers hallways faster

as for JP, I tihnk it is exactly the way it should be (it is a thrust nearly directly up)

I think it's ok as it is for lerk (practice makes perfect... I think I'm pretty good at flying around the hallways... it's all about strafing and turning and subtlely tapping your buttons to make minor changes, so you progressivly turn rather than trying to suddenly turn a full 90 degreees in fast flight) ... flying STRIGHT into a vent feels ace when you pull it off... sometimes I go back and keep doing it until I get it

I think jetpack should certinaly be more forward thrusty, but only if you press forward obviously...

I assume you mean 'press jump' when you say 'press space'. However the direction you fly while pressing jump is determined by your 'direction keys'. If you press jump you just go straight up. It's true you have to keep pressing jump if you want to hover.

Flying as a lerk takes practice, but once you get good at it you are the perfect support-/guerilla-unit. I love playing lerk. It's so much fun harrassing marines. You can almost always get out of a sticky situation in no time. Flap your wings 3-4 times and you are so fast you are impossible to hit.

Have you ever tried flying backwards while spiking marines, who thought you were an easy kill? I like it. I like it a lot

Im too a very good lerk'er, but theres one thing I wish could be added into the flying keys for lerk, that is: DIVE!! There have been many situations where Im a lerk and find a lonely marine who spots me and start shooting. Therefore my most used tactic is to fly towards him and bite him. Now if only there was the DIVE key you could fly towards him with more aerodynamical position that would speed up very fast -with only ONE key press (that is hold down, duh).

Tho having this would prevent ppl never using the Glide.. I usually have to do a bit work to get my flying fast - towards the poor guy - on his stomach level, that is I have to flap a lot first, then drop nearly to ground and glide, then flap, flap and again glide to get enough speed fro them not hitting me but me coming towards their delicious internals that burst from their stom- Oops.. Well anyways you got my point.. my mouth just watered gotta go eat someon- uhm.. something...
