I was somewhat going off of <a href="http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fastest-graphics-card-radeon-geforce,3085-7.html" target="_blank">Tom's Hardware Hierarchy</a>. . .

Right now I'm middle of the road with an 8600 GTS which runs the game, but not very well

I was looking to upgrade, but I want to make sure whatever I get is good enough

---

As long as we are on hardware is 2 gigs of ram sufficient for NS:2 or should I double it?
<i>(Ram is very cheap now)</i>

--- Update ---
More specs added in post 5

IT's reliant on the rest of your PC spec.

Your card isnt an midrange-card as you you maybe read out of the card Hierachy.
An 5 year old 8600gts is absolute low-end.

If the rest of your pc is 5 year old also, a new graphics-card or more ram would not help you, cause the the game need a strong cpu.
    Something like an i5,i7 @ 4ghz

But without specs, noone can help you.

Yeah, if your PC is the same age as your GFX card, it's best to just save for a new PC. Even with other games, a new GPU wont improve your FPS much.

    <u><b>konata & dePARA:</b></u>

What other specs do you need?

I got a dual core 1.8 overclocked to 2.4, 7200 RPM SATA HD, 500W Power Supply, XP Pro, and the other stuff I mentioned

Yeah it's probably time for a new machine, but if I wanted to upgrade what's the cheapest bottleneck to go after?

A dual core what? Celeron? Pentium D? Core 2 Duo Ewhatwhatwhat? That's the main thing.

At least he said "dual core" rather than "two Celerons".
I have a Core i7 1.73 (boost to 3.06), a GeForce 330M with 1GB VRAM, 4GB system RAM, and a 7200RPM HDD. My OS is 64-bit too, and I'm using the latest official NVidia drivers. And even on the lowest settings, NS2 is completely unplayable- 800x600, lowest detail level.
So basically, either I'm doing something terribly wrong (which isn't out of question), or you're SOL.

What power supply does your laptop use in W?
  • AldhisslaAldhissla Join Date: 2012-01-01 Member: 139381Members
If that was directed at me, 19.5Vx6.2A=120W.
  • konatakonata Join Date: 2011-08-24 Member: 118296Members
Yes. And anything that runs at 120W as an overall computer is going to be serverely underpower. You'd expect a 128bit graphics card capable of playing most modern games well to use 120-150W. Your laptop computer uses as much of and less than that.

Your mobile i7 are not the same as the desktop equivalent (there is a big performance gap). Also the video card on your laptop's performance is just slightly higher than a HD 5570 desktop video card (330M only has 3dmark vantage scores up but they range from 2000-2300. HD 5570 ranges from 1900-2100 in their vantage scores).

I think you will hard time playing this game, even after optimization due to the video card in your laptop. If they kept the engine in source it would have been a different story though.
