Some of my
Hey! So i just came of from LONG ns 2 game session. It included many games some of them ending in rush, but most of them ending in bad commanding. I'm former ns1 HC player so i was pretty familiar whit the gameplay.

First toughts were not so good, these included VERY unstable fps (when ###### starts to happen hive areas etc, mouse lag, some choke) and i was really upset by the beta. There seem not to be any teamplay involved, when everyone just did their own things. There was a couple of OK games but they really didint have any climax, they pretty much ended in late rush or something.

But my last game was something that re-ignited my enthusiasm that i had on the first place whit ns ONE. It was about 80 min game back and forth. Phase gates, Arcs, GL:s, fades, lerks and cuties. After sweaty 80 min we finally managed to bash marine start.

At first i was really worried that inexperienced players will destroy the overall game experience from everyone, but this wasnt the case. There is BIG techical problems still ( about 25 avg whit my laptop GT 540 M, bad on hives and bases it drops the average), but I have faith in UWE team to pull those gigabytes together and polish this game to its predecessors level.

About the gameplay, i played most of the time as fade. When i got in the flow it felt pretty unstoppable. I know that it isn't the whole story but i really couldnt die. U dont need to have that momentum that u needed in ns1 as fade ( I did like 45 - 6). U just can go and draw back. It's gonna be hard to balance to competitive scene but oh well, u have all the time, dont you?

I hope to see this evolve to the ultimate teamplay experience. Hope to see you on servers!

If you're looking for teamplay, go to NS2 gathers in my signature. There are usually gathers running between the hours 16-24 CET(Central European Time).
Also, stalemates is mostly a problem on publics, but it can also happen in the gathers, when both teams are struggling to win. This will most likely get resolves as more researches get in the game. Our games usually last between 2-40 minutes per round. Mostly about 15-25 minutes.

Yeah, but its kinda retarded to go on gather when its on kinda unplayable level techincally. SO unstable fps makes it very hard to play and mouse lag makes aiming challenge aswell. At somepoint I will join on gather no doubt, but in the meantime, ill try to learn the game.

I just stated that u could have those public teamplay experiences in ns1 ( many great servers adn ppl) and I am very hopeful that we will have these kind of games in the future of ns2 aswell, although the game is kinda mess right now.

I'm a new player too. (Bought it a few months ago, but only played a few matches before, and now playing more with the recent optimization.) I really love it, and it seems like the sort of game that I could join a clan for and play for 10 years.

How can I practice commanding though? In Nuclear Dawn, I could join an empty server and practice, but with NS2, a game won't start if there isn't another player, and it won't let me command in Warm-up. I did a search for this question but couldn't find anything.

    @Pixel-atonal

Try hosting a game and join a team, then open console with tilde key (Next to the 1) and type cheats = 1. That should force the game to start up.

Yeah, i dont really know anything about alien commanding either (is there a tech tree somewhere, and how do i spread the infestation). Havent commanded yet. Ns1 i commanded a lot and master SC II player, but all in all they really doesn't matter when ur fps is 15 in commander mode :DD med spoams would be damn late....

    Thanks! That helped a lot.

Yes fades are def a bit unbalanced , I always top the scoreboard with around 4/1 kd ratio minimum. Carapace + regen and you're unstopable with a very minimal retreat delay. Their mechanics shouldnt be changed but it should take 4 normal hits instead to kill a rine with lvl 1 armor and perhaps an exclusive reduction of life regen. LMG are also very weak agaisnt them and they just move so fast and easily that shotguns arent a good options.

The lerks on the other hand could use a spikes buff. Right now if the rines reach lvl 2 upgrades and the aliens struggle to put up a second hive and thus have no fades, its pretty much gg. Buffing the lerks and hydras could balance this out imo.

Yeah. And one MAIN reason why fade is unbalanced is the trouble of aiming right now. Unstable fps, mouse lag etc. Its really hard to engage anything in close counter. Those shotguns are vital when fighting fades but they are so hard to hit whit current setup. In the other hand, we dont really know how marines HMG and PL tech (JP,HA) will play out ingame yet.

4 hits in CURRENT state would be fine, but it would make nearly impossible to engage whit fade. If so, when your fighting against big group you just couldnt do that much damage, cuz your energy just doesnt last that long to engage in and out to hit them to kill (welders can refill armor and med offc heal).

We cannot kinda state anything about balance until the full content is out.

The advantage of the gathers is also max numb of players are 12. Compared to most server 14-16 it gives you a better performance over time. Also the spam of sentrys or other buildings don't happen alot. And last but not least you play in a team of players that mostly know how to play. No beginner coms you need to teach and no rambos (only if com gives the order).

Performance and atmosphere is just great on gathers.

The original matchup was 6v6 and i think it can stay that way. I know what gather is (; and ill join the fun intime. Game is just so unstable now on my comp that its really hard to perform well. So I would just piss ppl off :D (random freezes in every 1-5 minutes, hive area fps GAD etc...)
