Is this the sort of game that will recieve updates ?

I only recently heard of NS2, and only played NS1 for the first time last week. I'm considering buying NS2, but i'm wondering, is this the sort of game that will receive new content (E.g maps, weapons, classes) after it has been released? Or will it just be "it's done release it and fix bugs for the first month and then that's it" which so many games seem to do now?

I'm probably going to buy it regardless, just wondering which it will be.

NS2 will also have community driven content and of course will be supported for a long time after v1.0...

I personally have the feeling that these guys have the same ideas as Valve regarding keeping your game alive to attract more and more new players. Back in the days when NS was just a mod, it got updated over the years with new versions and new awsome maps. Hopefully NS2 will have the same fate. But only time will tell.

well, if NS1 is any indication, it'll be supported for years. ns was in active development for like 3 years after the initial release.

    This.

Also, UWE is building not just a game, but a gaming engine which will likely receive updates for years to come (just look how long Valve has been tinkering with the source engine).

I always love these similarities with Valve.

Two founders, while attracting more people

Released a game and got a company of the ground (Half-Life vs Natural Selection 2)

Started work on their own engine (Source vs Spark)

Are highly involved with their community (UWE more-so then Valve)

etc...

Hi VoidDragon, and welcome. Yup, we plan on keeping NS2 alive long after its been released, with bug fixes, balance adjustments, new maps, new content, graphical updates, engine and tools updates, the list goes on. We already have some maps in the works that we are looking to release post 1.0

And, as has been mentioned here, NS2 was designed to be very modding friendly, and we hope to have tons of community created content both before and after release, in the form of more maps, new features that we can include in the game, and a whole variety of different mods that can can be downloaded and played.

And the community will love you for that... :)

I just hope you really polish up the release patch so the ratings on popular sites hit the sky. With 50 million on the bank you'll be able to do anything you want with NS2 and future games :D

If you have the time don't rush it, Summer 2012 feels too close imo.

Its just the 1.0 release and as we know NS1 didn't end on 1.04.
I am happy if summer reaches, not because of 1.0, because NS2 is out of beta and millions of ppl notice this great sequal that beats many AAA ganes with houndres of ppl working on it!

UWE shows quality and skill is greater than mass.

I hope, no I am sure, UWE is like blizzard and D2 and still brings patches out for a 10year old standalone game!

    Of topic question:

Did you from UWE ever thought about supporting DX10/11 after 1.0?
Because you may have plans for a console port but till this time is reached, the new gen consoles comes out and they are on DX11.

Tesselation f.e. I would love to see on infestation. And alot of other features would be nice for NS2.
But that would mean ....alot..... of work.
