Just let the aliens be able to munch on an emergency power conduit a little bit and cause the blackout to happen for just a few of the map's areas. That'd be a hell of an ambush tactic!
I just love it when the lights go off, but it is a bit short. I'd love to see this extended or the emergency light dimmed. There's no real disadvantage with emergency lights. Maybe with more darkness the marine commander should be able to drop flares or marines themselves with GL alternate fire?
Oh man, definitely... I want darkness so badly in this game. It has to be done right though... And I like Harimau's thinking on this one.
My personal twist on it: Powered state: Same as it currently is. Node destroyed state: Same as it currently is. Initial neutral state: 50% of the light sources turned off, 50% emitting their normal amount of light. The ones that are left on primarily illuminate main paths, leaving vents and other nooks/crannies in relative darkness.
As for alien commanders: Infestation gives off a bright commander-only light (the infestation is part of the hive-mind's sensory system right? So why not have the infestation let a commander "see"?)
