I played combat before the NS one. I didn't really get it and combat I could keep things! Combat is fun if u feel like ######ing around IMO, but the Original is much more fun and shows more of a team effort.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Initially reading i wasnt digging the post, but though it took some ego suppression i agree with you. You state it fairly without bias imo.
As i play NS2 now, it almost feels like old times. Only thing bugging me now are the maps. Too small, cant believe i actually miss the generic space filling areas that put room between rines and aliens. The constant flow of skulk rushing is getting annoying. Not like they have anything better to do than get RFK or chomp buildings. I miss something else but wont mention it, tends to get a flame war going lol.
Man... I still remember being several hours late to school that day, because due to timezones the mod was released early in the morning for me and I wanted to start the download before I left so I wouldn't have to wait when I got home...

Hehe, mee too. Like 10 years ago :-). Everything is fresh and new, all players are still learning the game, so when you screw up a little, you won't get "noobbashed". I don't like when things get too competetive and "pro" in public games. For example that was a reason why I've stopped to play Counter-Strike around v1.4, because there was always an idiot with AWP and those weponswitch keybinds mastubating his ego. On other hand I must say that NS never went in extreme like that (thank god) :-)
And last thing about Combat - I rememeber there were discussion, that NS is too complex and overwhelming for new players and thats a case why is not developing its playerbase. I think, the initial idea behind Combat was, to attract those new players to NS and asssume, they will shift to classic mode over time. Actually it didn't happened in most cases :-/
Actually I dont wan't to state that this is how was it exactly! Its long time ago and maybe I dont remember everything corectly. But what I do rememeber is, that there were people in mapping forum working on NS Training map, but they didn't finished it (edit: <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=90474" target="_blank">they actually did</a> :-)).

I was there on launch night :). Left because... well... the state of games has changed a lot in the last 10 years. Go back and play some Halo 2 campaign on XBOX, then play Monday Night Combat. Despite the avalanche of talented people behind Halo 2, video games were still really rough around the edges back then. People didn't know how to make an FPS that was fun, and it took years of doing it wrong for game designers to develop the kind of thinking that goes into today's best games.

Personal demos? I miss seeing 1.04-2.0 competitive play.
I was there in the first few days. I loved babblers and want to see them make a come back. Nothing better than to have the gorge be feared again. He releases 3-4 mini skulks and seeing 2 or 3 marines jumping and hopping around trying to avoid them.
I remember the red room and seiging Great Viaduct, also I would gorge and build a wall of OC with DC behind. Good luck getting around that.

I still have stat print outs of the server stats. I hope we will be able to set up data bases like that in the new NS2.
