Siege Cannon Range?

Hi all,

Interestingly no answers seems to've been given concerning the range of the siege-cannons. Or I didn't search well enough.

Does anyone know how many units worth they can shoot?

    siege radius = 1250 units

thus the diameter is 2500 units

Therefore the minimum size of a map should be...

Minimum 2500+ between hives/marine spawn, to ensure that a siege turret placed in a central location cannot reach more than one Hive area. Given a box shape setup with start points at the corners, the smallest map you could make would be around 3000 x 3000 units in area, which is just a little under a quarter of the maximum XY map area... but incredibly cramped.

siege cannons have a radius/range of 19-20 "big squares (64*64)"

Siege cannon ranges were changing up until about 3 days before NS went gold. Merkaba didn't have mucgh chance to change anything at athat point.

    What's wrong with processing anyway?

You can siege two hives from Processing, Chrome.

    With the same siege cannon?

I'm betting that range doesn't include the distance from the Turret factory, in which case you've probably got to add 400 to the radius and base it on what you can attack from a siege upgraded turret factory.

Yeah, I tested it.. and you can lock down two hives. And with the same siege cannon. I did this quickly with bigdig, and spawnhive. You can replicate it as much as you like as well.

Betatesters tend to play nice so its not always the best environment for finding exploits. Not to mention, as Chrome said, the siege cannons were being tweaked constantly so it slipped through the cracks. Just another example of how changing one value can cascade and cause changes all the way down the line.

i do remeber siegeing from that area many times in playtesting. Never had any problems with it hitting both hives. Either we never got it in the right spot, or siege range was upped a ton before release <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
