Points for supporting your team in general

Recently bought this game and I'm loving it, altough it feels like somewhat of an unpolished gem at the moment, I know it will eventually be something great.
A problem I have noticed is that people who support their team by building/repairing/assisting and even the commanders themselves (who are arguably the most important players) do not get points for their actions. The only way to rack up points at this moment is by getting the killing blow on structures or enemies.
A good way to make support players feel useful would be to reward their actions. Some quick ideas on the top of my head:
-Repairing a structure should give a slow but steady stream of points.
-Building a structure should give points based on how much you helped build it. Every player who helped build should be rewarded.
-Commanders should get points for sucessfully building RT's and also get points when an enemy structure is destroyed.
-Helping kill an enemy or building but not getting that last killing blow should still give some points.
Not really a game breaking issue but it would make a big difference to those who like to help their team.

I think this is a good idea!

This is something ive been thinking of alot lately and ive beein trying to figure out what could be done to make the scoring system more rewarding and relevant. I were planning on making a post on this topic myself but you beat me to it :D. Imo the current scoreboard and K/D count system should be completely removed and reworked alltogher. The K/D count doesnt add anything uselful and does nothing to promote any kind of "team effort". Instead it propably has the opposite effect on occasion. Players ignore wp´s or objectives and run off from the rest of the squad hunting kills instead of staying put and cover the teammates building rt´s etc.
This game is entirely based on TEAMWORK and cooperation, thus there should be a reward/scoring system that reflects that and promotes further teamwork.
I think the OP´s suggestions are definately a step in the right direction. As a player its nice to actually get some confirmation that your efforts are meaningful and important in the bigger scheme of things, even if its just getting a fast built structure deployed or guarding a location for some time.
In addition to the OP´s suggestions, the following should also reward points for a player:
Following waypoints and orders:
Moving to a location/waypoint. Attacking a specific location or structure specified by the commander. Defending/occupying uncontrolled territory for mapcontrol (specified by commander)
Staying as a group
Id love to see players be able to form own squads. The scorescreen should have a list of all players and what squads they are in/are available. Any player should be able to create or join a squad. The commander should be able to select any of these squads with a hotkey and give them orders and waypoints with ease. If a player dies out on the battlefield, spawns back and rejoins the group still fighting he should be awarded a small amount of points for it. Also, players receive points for staying together and staying alive (actively following waypoints and in vicinity of squad) for extended periods of time.
Battlepoints
Killing aliens should give points instead of frags. Saving a teammember could also give points. Like a L4D type CRITICAL SAVE reward/point for killing a alien that is 1 bite away from killing a squad/teammember. Saving a structure on low health could give the same kind of reward/bonus.
Welding armor
Selfexplanatory :)
Theres propably lots more that could be added here but i dont have more time unfortunately atm. More to come!
1 point/100 health/armor repaired
Is how I would do it. You can add extra points for kills or buildings finished constructing, but this ensures that everyone who helped with the kill/building still gets some points.

I love all of your ideas. I think that they're going to implement welding armor when they (if?) introduce heavy armor to the game. If I'm not mistaken thats how it worked in NS1.
However, I don't think that Battlefield 3-style squads are required. From what I've experienced, NS2 is already a very small game in terms of number of players in a team. Every team is already in a small, squad-like package. You should be able to hotkey certain marines but the hotkey goes away when they die. The last thing we'd need in a team game is having your already small team form smaller cliques.
There are plenty of current features that I hated at first (alien commander) but have won me over once I am shown the whole picture.
I hate the moment when you build ALONE a robo up to 97% then another helps to build and gets the reward. It makes me feel like an arse then.

That's exactly the kind of thing that prompted me to make this thread.

It even gives kill credit to people who actually deserved it, instead of just kill stealers. Some good stuff to look at.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Tribes Ascend's system is really good, you can tell the people that came up with it were gamers frustrated with how scoring works in most games.
Ah, and there is where you run into trouble. Its all well and good to have a measue of how good of a team player you are, but you run into a balance problem when you start handing out resources to a team, which is why they removed kill bounty.
Do you like stalemates?
Yeah ok, didn't thought of that.
