I noticed in the Ready Room my fps will not go above 99, any reason for this? Although at this point in time we'll never see near that FPS in actual play, it'd be nice to be able to match the refresh rate of your monitor.
Games that do not cap the FPS cause power consumption and heat issues with powerful graphics cards that render well over what is necessary. Also having a framerate higher than what servers are able to keep up with can cause anomalies. These are two likely reasons.
Jerunk has a point - Though I'm still stuck in 60hz land, I'm sure I'm not alone in aspiring to 120hz one day, and being able to match monitor refresh rate is an important thing for a keen pc gamer.
Unnecessary power-usage (and as such, the production of heat) would be a reason for an FPS-limit. Of course such a limit ought to be set to the v-sync, instead of an absolute of 100 (which is currently the case). Someone with a low-latency 120Hz screen might want to have 120FPS (having god knows what kind of beast of a CPU). The rate of updates sent by the server is entirely determined by said server, regardless of what kind of FPS a client has (it'll just interpolate whichever frames it does not recieve).
No I'm really capped at a 100. I can't tell for sure whether V-Sync is on, can't see any tearing so it may be, but then it ought to be 60 not 100. VSync is also forced off for NS2. Are you using an AMD per chance?

Ya I am caped at 100... but lets be honest this is a really trivial issue at this point. Is anyone here getting anywhere close to 100FPS in game? I didn't think so.

This was discussed when Starcraft II first came out. I think the consensus was that if rendering 100fps causes your system to overheat, you have cooling issues in your hardware setup.
An FPS cap is unnecessary in this day and age where video cards can be adequately cooled despite the high number of frames processed. The player should be the one to decide whether to cap his fps in order to meet the needs of his setup or to alleviate fps fluctuations. My GTX 460 has no problems rendering anywhere between 130 and 200+ FPS in other games while maintaining a decent temperature. I also have a 120 Hz monitor, and the whole point of buying one is to make games feel smoother. I do agree that removing the cap is unneeded in NS2 at the moment, but it will need to be removed upon release, whether or not the game becomes optimized at that point.

I noticed this some time ago too. Although it's not really important right now because, like it has been pointed out, it's doubtful that anyone plays with more than 100 fps, it's something to consider for later when the game is more optimized and people are able to get past that with their machines. Personally, I have a 120hz monitor so I would like this (eventually) to be uncapped (or capped higher, or with a command like fps_max).

Just make the default the current 100 fps.

I know you're talking to Floodinator but,
I'm capped at 100, VSYNC off, on nVidia.
Also on a 120hz monitor, which is why I ask.
Exact same story, so it may be uncapped for AMD-cards for some reason.
It's not like you need more than 100 FPS in the damn RR.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH.
Anyways, did a few rounds and for some reason my fps cap was 102.4 and wouldnt budge, does the server dictate the fps cap?
Yes please!
I THINK, the client sends updates to the server for every frame. If you have too many frames, you drag down the server.
