lerk spit attack

i was just thinking how the lerks spore attack could use a 2nd attack that doesn't change the feel of lerk, so why not give them a acid spitting attack like snakes? it make sense this open up a wider range of things for the lerk as an support class and even a ambush class and if used while on a wall it could be a deadly attack for any unwary marines.

Cool idea. Maybe it could eat away at armor to promote coordination with skulks.

how does spike work right now? maybe its good as a secondary attack for that slot: brittle, hollow spikes filled with acid.
after traveling x meters, they break apart because of corrosion, releasing a small puff of acid...

    You mean something like this?

    <center><object width="450" height="356"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZqVQcI5L520"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZqVQcI5L520" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="450" height="356"></embed></object></center>

It's also from Schimmels PT-Mod. It a melee attack for Lerk that did more DMG to lower the Lerks HP was, and it had this cool effect on the rines. I played some games with this and it was awsome but risky for the Lerk, if he wanted to really do DMG.

No, an Area Of Effect with heavily reduced damage, a puff of steam at best.
Killing sight beyond Line Of Sight obstruction (in other words, smoke screening) is a bad thing to do, designwise.
All it really does is pissing off the victim as it basicly means a free kill.

edit: I <b>do</b> like the music on that clip, tho.

Yeah visually stopping the player from doing anything is bad design, unless it can only be used a couple times (like flashbangs in css). Even then I think I would prefer something that warped the vision, rather than obscured it.

I always assumed the shotgun spikes were experimental at most, since the Lerk still doesn't have a solid secondary attack (that is accessible when using any slot abilities).

Still, an acid spit attack sounds interesting, but leave the vision obstruction to Spore and Gorge spit :P

How about just a puff of smoke? No need for it to be corrosive. It's quite effective to hit a group of marines with a crop-dust and have skulks follow up, I'd like to see a smaller version implemented that isn't spam-death for long corridors.

The lerk has enough attacks as it is.

Harassing with spikes and clouds of gas can really ###### things up.

for spores the lerk has to go in if i remember correctly. with spike fragmentation, he can survive the approach...

i feel that every alien attack should have a 2nd attack and same goes for marine weapons, i came up with the spit attack because i feel that giving the lerk bile bomb(which i think the devs plan to test with the lerk) would ruin what the lerk, which in my eye is supporting other life forms kill marines, taking down marine bases are what onos/gorge are for. giving lerk bile bomb will only turn him into a hit&run bile bomber mid game which if 2-3 lerks do camp the CC it's game over.

Nope, in combat he is a very easy target.
His spikes can only attack one marine, he need something to attack more marines at a time like in ns1 with spore.
Sure the spore version of ns2 right now, could "attack" more then one marine, but its not very effective because he have to be very close and in this situation he is very easy to kill.
I never saw a "good" lerk survive a flight through "good" shotgun marines, even flamethrower kills him very quick.

I think spores would be nice in this case if they were combined with Umbra. Because in its current form that's how it's used, and i really like the mechanics of putting yourself in danger to cloud marines vision/shield your alien allies from damage.

Spike secondary is also pretty worthless, i would rather see lerk have spore/umbra as a secondary fire throughout all its weapons.
