Maybe never, there is even only one skin for marines, i wonder because in ns1 you had a black and a white skin. Why is it gone? Anyway maybe we see sometime a female marine model but some player are busy while playing i guess lol.
i'm really looking forward to this. female characters seem to be more authentic when it comes to represent the human race, especially in a futuristic setting where people rely much more on <strike>boobies</strike> technology and intelligence instead of raw physical strength.

Joking aside, I don't see how this could be an issue at all. Who's going to notice a difference? Focus on gameplay and bug fixes, then worry about trivial things like this.
/sigh oh well. thought this would be an interesting topic to talk about but it went to another direction. I understand full well that its better to get the gameplay done before anything else which I want as well they do first.

I myself have been wondering the same thing for awhile, its just a simple model how long could that take, but i suppose they need a female voice over actress too. Also its not only the women who care, I myself as a man would love to see female marines and probably play them at times just to add diversity(and spam female voice commands :D) Soul has a point though, the banner is a female so.. where is she?
they are still having a placeholder models for the shell and the mines and i guess exosuit is more important as it is rather significant in terms of gameplay. after that, they probably want to add the shift, also gameplay, and after THAT they hopefully introduce female marines. but since the devs are working rather independently on their specific tasks, the models might be done ahead of time. so who knows, maybe they are introduced sooner as we expect it...
to be honest, i think male gamers want them just as bad as female ones, if not more. :) and let's not forget: the alien movie (biggest inspiration according to charlie) had an awesome female lead as well as a kick-ass female marine in the 2nd movie. so apart from sexyness, they'd add to atmosphere as well.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Also, do you really think they'd send females into space to fight aliens? overall there are some minor pros and cons, but the quality of a soldier will probably depend much more on the individual pereson anyway. so yea, i'd expect some female soldiers on the front line.

This is something the devs have said they wanted to see; but is not priority.
Therefore sometime after v1.0.
You'll probably have to run different servers for it though, I wouldn't be surprised if models are checked to be secure with the server...

I'm more interested in actual gameplay features being implemented and bug fixes.

I am guessing that is because you are a man.
If you were a female, you'd probably care more :)
This is a big issue among female gamers, the lack of female models and characters in multiplayer games. This could be a VERY big win for NS2.
Also with the main forum header being a female marine, you'd expect her to be in the game before v1.0 :)

Like others have said just focus on the gameplay not the gender of your character model. This isn't a RPG.
Also, do you really think they'd send females into space to fight aliens? They are too busy in the kitchen back on earth.
This is what the pre-order should give!
