Fix: 1. wait a min it will show up Or 2. Start a local server then open the list Or 3. It's steam, again... Or 4. Reactivate auto updates for NS2 so that your game will be patched to build 201 -- happend to me some month ago ^^

gotta be 3. 1 and 2 isn't it, and i just played last night after patching.
No no, don't go through such lengths. The problem is with the master-server, you don't have to reinstall\format\set-on-fire your stuff, just sit it out, maybe restart Steam or some of the other passive suggestions made, as long as you know the problem isn't really with you.
Glad to hear that it is a global issue. Hope it gets worked out soon. Every time I come back to NS2, it keeps getting better and better. Thant being said...where is my Heavy Armor and HMG? :P Thank you for all your hard work.
This tends to happen on the weekends most of the time at around this time, a wireshark capture shows that the query servers are not responding so it's not an issue with the game, really. It's a Valve thing, actually.

Just out of curiosity, will using the connect console command serve as a temporary fix? Eg. Somebody could host a server and post their IP and port here, then we connect via the console command.

That should work fine, you should also be able to type retry in the console and join the last server you played on (which may or may not still be running or have players on I guess).
You can also use the NS2 Tracker website to see a list of servers and join them from there: http://www.play4dead.com/ns2/
