Takes around 5 attempts to finally get in game for all!

My friends and I from the UK cannot get in game first time without crashing
The first attempt especially now with version 200 shows black screen with version 200 written. Crtl+Alt+Delete End program
The second attempt will get into the ready room for a few seconds and crash usually looking at the back our the characters head/body
The third attempt gets us into a team then connection problems once, twice, maybe 3 times.
This happened shockingly in alpha, when will these crashes be sorted because its been a month now

Could you post the contents of the NS2 logfiles in %APPDATA% and the output of dxinfo as per instructions <a href="http://unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=111496&view=findpost&p=1807497" target="_blank">here </a>please?
This info should give some insight into the problem, especially for the devs.
Update DirextX9. Update Graphics Drivers from ati.com or nvidia.com. Verify Steam Cache.
If those don't work, post up your DxDiag log.
How long have you actually waited for the black screen to disappear? When the build number in the upper left corner is visible, than this is normal and should go away after a few seconds.
The second try is usually faster, because there is data stored in the RAM even after quitting NS2.

Packet filter or something like that?
Try the LAN server with your buddy if you can, please.
I've tried with the firewall off and no change.
I re-installed windows last week and re-downloaded a fresh install of NS2 on steam and still the same problem.

3 months ago means ~ build 192? Do you remember the exact one?
Also, can you givee us your system specs as well, please?

I changed my router eventually
All was fine until build 200 for me
I just want to find out if it is really a problem with the router or something completely different.
I have exactly this problem too, including no internet access for about 30 seconds after closing NS2 after it has timed out. It seems like there's something NS2 is doing when connecting to a server which breaks the whole connection. I remember I had not played in a week or two and then I saw the Onos update came out and that's when I tried to get onto a server and started having this problem.
I can't run a local game either.

I'm not sure if everyone got the same problem.
