Felt an inclination to punch the narrator.

No. Forums should not begin by insulting new members with condescending rantings in a whiny voice. It sets the tone to "asshat." Nobody wants the tone of their forum to be "asshat."

That was quite possibly the most obnoxious introduction to something I've had the displeasure of seeing. If I saw that on the forums for a tool I wanted to use, I'd genuinely just switch to another software rather than put up with the kind of developers who'd publicize that attitude :/

yeah, thats quite some arrogant crap, but i like the general idea guiding people with a video instead throwing a wall of text at them

Personally I prefer reading over watching videos. They're just too slow.

I need to kill fast and bullets too slow!

Also another thing that'll surely motivate people to abide by forum rules: enable the search feature for registered users only!

to be honest, perhaps the easiest way to do it is to wrap the search aspect into the 'new topic' function.
You type in the title of what you're going to post and it does a search on that title.
If it finds any decent matches it goes "the following threads already exist that may cover that topic. click any of them to reply in those instead" then at the bottom there's a button to continue to make your own new thread regardless.

this gets around having to explain the rules to people ( a good system ultimately needs no manual :P ) and helps curb people's tendencies through the power of convience and laziness :D

How about: "If you need a video to tell you how to search a forum, you shouldn't even be allowed to use the internet in the first place."

especially on a forum that caters to development of phone firmware... If you are developing software for a phone I would hope you are semi computer literate...
