A compromise on black armor

I only found out about NS2 being available for beta purchase after the offer on black armor ended. Very disappointed.

Personally I think anyone who buys the game before it's even finished deserves the black armor.

But so as not to offend those who wanted to be even more extra special for having bought it during an earlier point of the beta, why don't we give their version of black armor a special armpatch of some sort. That way they can still say look, I'm even more special, without denying others their justly deserved paid beta participation armor.

    Not only did I buy the game before anything was ready to be released to us, but I also paid more for that version of the game than the standard game costs.

    I'm sure UWE will offer something to beta testers, an icon like the PAX icon that now appears in game over players heads, or a badge on the armor or something. You will not get Black Armor. It is gone and is never going to be released again.

    It was a thank you from the devs (and a nice enticement too) to get people to buy the game when it was only an engine test. It's like a reward for having faith in UWE.

    There's quite a bit of difference between buying a game when it's almost ready for release and buying a game when all you can do is run around a small map with one gun and static shooting targets. And those were the lucky people who could actually run NS2 at that stage in development.

    Black armoured marines have also been giving feedback on the game for the longest, helped make the forums lively and supported the youtube videos.

    Beta testers should get something like Kouji suggested above.

    If you follow the game for 10 years and find out about NS3 then you too can be a chosen one :P

    The funny thing is, we didn't actually buy a game. We bought an idea that became two screenshots and morphed into an alpha walk around tech demo, which evolved into a "playable" alpha :D

    The Black Armored individuals you do see allowed the game to develop further. Correct me if im wrong but i thought it was said without the preorder DI, Exo Suit, and some other features were getting scrapped for a rushed timeline due to funds.

    I have the black armour but would not mind if it became the default on retail release. It looks much better than the green and a full team in the same black armour would look great. UW could give the original black armour players a patch on the shoulder/helmet instead.

    To summarise the rest of the posts on this topic:

    Everyone who has black armour will not like arm badges... Everyone without black armour will like arm badges...

    Perhaps UWE can have some mirrors in the maps so that other vain marines can check out there sharp threads more often, and be able to remember them more often than when they get wolf whistles from passing lerks...

    I didn't even realize ns2 sales were live when black armor was purchaseable, when I first saw the sales the special edition was already "sold out" :P

    Though to be honest, the black armor isn't really ... noticable...

    Too bad it was that kind of preorder deal. The devs could have used the black armor to indicate squadleaders or some kind of fireteam leaders and then give them some extra abilities.

    Now its just for showing off

    Since we're already at the topic of armor/looks... will there be female marines? :)

    Yes there will be female marines. It is something the devs have always wanted in the game, but will probably not make it until after v1. Although to be fair, it would be a great marketing device to have it ready for release of 1.

    I'd like to see just those little yellow arm bands for all other beta testers, it's only a slight modification and it's not black. But it's still "cooler than normal".
