Show & Tell Sunday

All NS2 Mappers must sign up
I'd like to start a weekly "Show and Tell" where every Sunday the mappers of the NS2 community post a few screenshots of what they've made within the last week inside one thread.

What I want this to accomplish is a strengthening of relationships between all the mappers in this community. A weekly forum post where everybody submits a screenshot of the last thing they were working on. This should definitely help motivate and inspire people who are mapping, as well as give the rest of the Natural-Selection community a weekly bundle of community map progress to mull over.

If we can have the thread filled out on Sunday, if there are enough submissions UWE could post it as Monday news on the NS2 website. Maybe even Hugh could make mention of it in his videos. Nothing more exciting than NS2 map progress :D

Posting Suggestions:
Screenshots
Room names
Concept art you used / what inspired you
Hours put into work
Any difficulties you had
What will be added next
What rooms connect
Special gameplay features
Sharing of new textures/models for scene
Share .level file for others to see

I will be showing off a room named Gelid, an extremely cold underground room that is responsible for cooling liquid and returning throughout the rest of the map.

So who is interested? First day is Sunday, April 29th.

Yeah I'll join in. Probably won't log hours though because I never look at the clock when I map.

nice idea Ive been waiting for something like this to happen where mappers gather to show and share ideas that would help and inspire. this will for sure result in better looking maps and hopefully great layout wise.

Sounds like a great idea, just hope it doesn't turn into another 'Post Your screenshot' thread.

i could use some motivation, i'm in. but instead of uwe forum threads we should gather in a steam group chat while we work on things. post in there, real time chat.

edit: or maybe both, didn't read the "include the non-mapping community" part

Think both would probably be a better choice, though there is the mIRC natural-selection mapping channel on irc://gamesurge.net/nsmapping , you can usually find a few of the community mappers in there like Perso, Alibi, myself and a few others, psyk0man and fmpone used to frequent the room though I don't know why they don't anymore.

But yeah a steam group chat would be good, can share ideas, perhaps even collaborate on certain things, share feedback in real time and or just generally chat, be easier for some of the newer community mappers to get answers rather quick to certain questions they may have without waiting for a response on the forums, but like I said there is the mIRC channel, I'm not sure which one is more convenient, I suppose it's up to everyone here what they would prefer.

Steam group is a good idea, I'm always on Steam but not on mirc. If somebody wants to create the group, by all means do. If it isn't made by Sunday, I'll do it myself.

I've been doing a lot of work lately, I'll probably be able to show off an additional map section. It's a waterfall that poured into a turbine to create electricity. The room is part cave, part man made. I've got a good mix going. The only problem I'm having is ambient noises just not being loud enough or playing correctly.

I hope somebody from UWE shows a Docking pic ; )

I'll start showing what I've been doing then.
I thought I'd give my mapping skills a try.. and I have gotten a very basic hang of the spark editor.
There is still plenty I need to figure out, for example how to map the power grid, and how to set height map and stuff like that.
Would love to get some hints and general help with previously mentioned stuff btw.

The map I've been working on is called NS2_Hallway and its currently on alpha build 2, and has just gotten its basic form, air ducts and ventilation are planned but not placed yet, same for 3 more smaller rooms for each team.

The purpose of this map is that you have to advance to gain a foothold, the more "land" you loose, the harder it gets, I will have cleverly placed ventilation to all rooms, so not all the fighting is done in the corridor.

The corridor will be full of miscellaneous things that blocks the view, so aliens will stand a chance.

Anyways here's some screens starting from marine spawn going across to alien spawn.
