Reduce structure spam & late game tres glut
In Warcraft 3, at certain unit counts, gold mines would produce less resources as your unit count grew. The thought was to encourage high-pressure engagements with smaller numbers of units and dissuade cheese.
Could this work for NS? Once the res cost for all non-extractor/harvester structures and completed research exceeds a threshold, reduce the amount of t.res the commander gets? This would dissuade turret spam, add a reason for chasing 5+ extractors, etc. Thoughts?

In Warcraft III, Upkeep takes the form of a tax on your Gold mining that is automatically deducted from all Gold you gather. As you produce more units, the tax on your Gold income increases.
There are three levels of Upkeep:

High Upkeep is MEANT to be very punishing. Players should not be in it for long, but we didn't want to set the harsh unit cap at 80.
During play, it is wise to stay in Low Upkeep, and just jump to the High Upkeep tier before a major attack. Try not to enter High Upkeep unless you have 2-3+ Expansions.

Substitute "gold" for "resources" and "food" for "structures and upgrades" and you start to see how this could apply to NS2.

Also, what problem is this looking to solve? If it's turret spam there's gotta be something that doesn't directly affect the entire rest of the game that you can do...
Landslide victories. Extractors not mattering after the 4th, so long as the other team only has 2 or 3. Cheese: (Arc Trains, Turret Spam, Lerk Spam).
I don't think it's needed for TRes though.
But I agree that turrets should not be as spammable.
Maybe they should only be placeable within a certain AoE of the robotics factory?
