With the eventual promise of customization for Marines; the immediate a possibility of editing a texture, uploading it to the internet, and reminding people to back up their files; and my looming need to pad out my portfolio before I start looking for Graphic Design internships this summer, I decided that I would start making some custom skins for NS2. Wanting to stick with what I'm familiar with, I opened up the Marine_Body.dds file, and began to prep it for editing (by prep it for editing, I mean I went through and made new layers for each different section of the skin that I knew I would be tweaking: armor plating, fabric, straps, lights, etc.). Around this time, I hit upon an idea - why not create a thread under Squad Five where texture artists such as myself could post custom skins for NS2, and take requests from the community? That's exactly what this is: a place where custom skins are showcased and made downloadable, and where members of the community can make requests for certain themed custom skins and have a texture artist then go and make said skins.
With this in mind, I decided that I'd re-create the classic H.E.V.'s Orange & Black from the original Half Life (throwing a nod to the game the original Natural Selection was a mod for) and slap it on the Marine texture. Having done hundreds of simple re-colors in the past, I figured it'd take me about thirty minutes, and would be a great starter project. Six hours later, I've finally finished and have developed a new-found respect for whoever did the saturation on the Marine texture, as well as a conditioned hatred for the color orange, and an irresistible urge to replay the original Half Life.
Thus I present:
H.E.V. Marine

I have another skin in the works (does not involve six hours of editing saturation, thankfully), and will now be taking requests from anyone who pipes up here.

For this next skin, I decided to change the original Marine skin so it fit more with the SpecOps marine. (No in-game screenshots this time, sorry)

Its the .PSD template that I use whenever I edit the marine skin. It has all of the different sections of the armor already assigned to their own layer, as well as three layers dedicated to producing blue glow under the light (so the color can be edited without having to worry about the glow).
If ya'll think its a good idea, I'll create a few basic tutorials for editing with Photoshop.

Great textures and thank you for the PSD file (you might want to edit out your Skype name in case you're concerned about privacy).
Btw, am I the only one who sees a corset when looking at the texture of the boots (on the right side)? :D
Wtb female goth marine skin.

lol yeah me too. I actully didnt get it at first glance and then I saw that it was the boots :D
there is a way to create a mod to randomize the marines colors? lol
like have the files like:
male_body_red.dds
male_body_yellow.dds
and in game the mod randomize the colors of the marines?
How about giving the marines the color of the squad they're in, or maybe just their front and back chestplate. This will give some more visual clues of who are your squadmates.
Would also be cool to be able to see 2 squads merge for a big fight before splitting up again, the reds go left while the blues go right.
Just for fun:

Quick preview (obviously nowhere near finished, but I figured I'd post what I have before I go to bed today):

If anyone knows how to set the model so it uses a spec/normal map I'll do those too. Also, if anyone knows how to code an ammo counter into the model, please speak up, and I'll work with you to edit the texture to include that, too.

Perhaps for a temp ammo counter nick the holographic counter off of the welder or something and place it on top (or the side or something but a bit smaller) dunno about how its coded though :s perhaps look at some of the rifle Lua Scripts?
Created a skin for the Steel Confessors!
Dark grey armor with darkgreen camo underneath.
Also using new nade model now!

This is amazing! Definitely downloading.
YES!!!!!
This is so awesome, I hope someone is awesome enough to mod a custom marine server
Custom textures for marines really seem like a good feel for me to make clans personalised... have some type of clan logo on marine on chest armor etc.
If custom textures would be type of "all see side" that would be nice, but still I have a feeling that we would be seeing a lot of pink marines ^_^
