NS2 Ambience and Sound

I stumbled across this video on the YouTubes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-VNauZhwkQ...feature=related

Interestingly, the comments on this video seem to say what I also believe, which is that a lot of the sounds like turrets "pinging," the sound when you gestate to a higher lifeform, the building sounds, dropping structures, as well as the background music at the start of each round perfectly set the tone for the game. They are also wondering if this will be back in NS2.

I think bringing back some of the sounds and this same music would be a great choice, if it is possible.

It really is great Space music and ambience.

Im not sure but couldnt somebody just make a mod with the Music and let it start after joining a match... more or less like a built in mp3 Player? :P

Btw. if you listen carefully there are some ambient sounds that kinda are Music (so to give the map some some life) depending in which area of the map you are... (i think it was decided against plain simple bgmusic, or at least the way it was in ns1 where randomly some music starts for some time and then goes away)

Yeah some more ambient music and sounds would be nice. Definitively make it feel more Aliens, and the tension you feel in those films.

NS2 is a bit of a different beast though, far more frantic. Maybe ambient music like that won't work as well.

One thing NS1 sound and music did perfectly was make you feel cold and lonely in space.

All those sound effects and ambient music tracks are perfect...wish they were in NS2 as well.

Would really help create the eerie, isolated atmosphere the NS1 maps had.

Without them NS2 could feel a bit hollow.

With the right maps (remakes and new ns1 style maps) it would work. Someone is bound to make a mod that makes NS2 less 'combat'. Maybe that's already being worked on.

And frantic gameplay shouldn't mean zero sci-fi atmosphere right? Although it is hard to take in the vibe of the maps or listen to sounds when you're shooting oni, lerks and fades in the first 5 minutes ^^'

Personally I felt there was an RPG element to NS1 where you really felt like a space marine under the leadership of a commander....it was just awesome...exploring the maps and listening out for the slightest scratch of alien talons against cold metal. That interdependence of commander/marines and gorges/aliens has been fractured for NS2 to make the game more accessible (but IMO ns2 is more complicated and bewildering and anarchic!)

So I think more atmosphere can be created in NS2, it just wont be the same atmosphere we had before :)

    Nostalgia overload!

Huge and "empty" but atmospheric maps are missing in NS2. Like Bast of course, and Nothing, Agora...

Watch that video in my original post and tell me that it doesn't make you feel calm, relaxed, and AWESOME!

Where is that in NS2? We need that.

Here you go. quick and simple hack mod that adds the ns1 ambient starting music, building sounds, end round sounds and a few others. Unfortunately there is some weird bug where all previously playing sounds are stopped when you enter the command chair.

Tbh, Simon's sounds are quite well done so i'm reluctant to try and add back ns1 sounds at all.

I really hope they put that music from the original post video back in NS2 though. That music was perfect and I have not seen one person say it was bad.
