Hey Flayra you don't pay Hugh enough! ;)

Whatever he gets, it's probably not as much as he deserves. He's doing such an amazing job (re-)presenting the game, Unknown Worlds and the whole community.

I'm sure he gets paid quite adequately but he does a great job and his enthusiasm is always present whenever he talks about ns2, which is great to pull people in.

Hearing him talk on the twitch stream.. I never realized how expansive the game is for people that hadn't played NS1 :\ I mean.. I've tried summarizing the game before and I knew it takes a lot of words (because of structures, units, Health/Armor) but it's just crazy that certain things need so much explaination.. like the first 4 units of aliens all have different ways of moving. Wallwalk/bellyslide/fly/blink.. and on top of that a plethora of other skills that need to be explained and explanation on how to unlock them..

It's really too bad some people will never experience some of the things the NS community has.. like lerk bombing structures and stuff..... I'm really glad to have participated in the NS beta and I think all thanks to that goes to hugh.. been watching his vids since ns2hd [1] and bought the beta because of his youtube channel.

Hugh did a great job. Represented both the game and the company well. Especially during the first QnA where Dreamhack failed and he couldn't use his laptop at all, so had to improvise visually, like so....

My Fav part. Well done Hugh! :D

Hugh is doing a great job... he is representing you company culture and game excellently.

However not knowing what hugh is being paid or anyone who is being paid... I cannot profess to KNOW that he should earn more.

Perhaps it should be settled ... as Notch one suggested ... on the field of Q3.
( sorry couldn't resist being a wide ass ..... even when i am trying to help ... my true nature always comes to bear )

That would've been tough to go through dreamhack with out his proper presentation. Good job Hugh.

Truthfully, they could probably all get better pay elsewhere.

Hopefully that all changes after NS2 releases.

Lol, didn't see the twitch cast but if thats him on stage infront of thousands of people at DreamHack talking about how a gorge vomits up structures, then hes actually enjoying himself (easy to tell) ... ! Well done that man.

Don't tell him, but Flayra could pay me $1 and I'd still do this job (it's that much fun)

RE The Dreamhack presentation, I am just glad that their AV system buggered up for DreamArena Orange and not on the Main Stage - Everything worked fine on the Main Stage, even alt-tabbed into the game LIVE! Could not believe my luck. I literally held my breath as I pressed the two keys...

The game did not crash. What happens is if you are in fullscreen mode and run a listen server, the server will not run properly if you alt+tab out of the game, since it will be put in some kind of background sleep mode. The game will not pause though and if you alt+tab back, the listen server will try to "catch up" with what has happened in the meantime, making the game hang for a variable amount of time depending on how long you were out of the game. Every modder knows this unless you're always in windowed mode, which is a workaround for the issue. :D

EEkk never alt tab bro... windows key windows key.. .and run game in windows mode.

serious though next time you go to do a booth or something have a lan right there in the hall.

bring the team along sit each guy in the crowd. spaced apart 10-12 chairs two rows in-between. and have a LAN match. any thing you need to show. can easily be reenacted or shown. people sitting around them will be able to ask them questions. it could even be fans. you scrapped up from the event.

so you can just spectate and when you ask for some one to show the power grid mechanic they can just follow the player on spectate. or jump into the game and go view it in first person or first person watching another player do it.

but really well done hugh well done even with all the tech fails. and misshaps. at least main stage went off with out a hitch.

It was an excellent presentation, and Hugh did great when the technology failed and he had to describe things verbally and through the medium of dance.

The dance off between Hugh and Charlie will be during the next Dev Q&A, right?

Hugh did a great job - the only thing that made me a little sad(in the 2nd Q&A), is that he said after alt tabbing the game crashed - tho it didnt crash(2 times)... if you are hosting a listen server on your machine and alt tab - it takes some time to recover - looking like its frozen. The longer you alt tab the longer it takes to recover... (changing map cant stop it, only disconnect and restarting the server, or waiting works)

Can we pay you $1 to perform some kind of belly slide?
Or like... organize an event where the whole of UWE runs down a slip'n'slide :D

I can wholeheartedly agree on this one. I've met Hugh in person here at Dreamhack (even helped him out with some camera work!) and his enthousiasm for the game is inspiring. Good call to take him on the team! :)

if you're to do more presentations just run the game in fullscreen windowed. alt tab problems be gone!
