Choose to Win or have fun?
Its time discuss which is the most important thing to you and how do you react when you cant achive that for some reason..
Why , you may ask. The deal is some players take the game dead serious and they just have to win on every round, i guess they put aside the fun factor and just agressively start the advance.
Not that is a bad idea at all, but when they start to yell at their team "you n00bs!" etc, it really gets out of control...the word fight will start etc. I'm sure you have seen this by now, on public servers too so how do you feel about it?.
Today at ns_hera i happened to join aliens, it was mid-game about. So, there was one dude yelling to everyone using excessive curse words, so i knew they were losing. He screamed to me also, he seemed to be having a bad day too
Its everyones own choice how they play the game, of course i love to win (fuzzy feeling) but i like to have fun too, no matter if i'm a marine or alien. I would chose to have FUN instead of always winning. Nobody likes to lose, right?.
Maybe after a huge battle it would be ok to lose because you know you did your best and your team did theirs but are people trying too hard, too much pushing others around so they cant have any fun anymore?.
Fill in your thoughts..if you dare to share .

That said, yes I rush as alien. IF the marine team can't defend against it, too bad. I will do my best to have an enjoyable game BUT I will not hold back or give the marines some breathing space for the sake of fun. I once had someone tell me "don't destroy the CC, let them rebuild". I don't think the opposing team is there for me to prune and culitvate into something I can almost eliminate then leave and return 10 mins later to repeat the process. I also do not engage in tatics like "Don't kill the IP, kill everything else". That is just lame. It goes the same for marines. I won't play in the "they only have one hive so lets take over every room on the map before we kill the last hive" games either. That too is lame.

Taskman
Yeah, as soon as I read through those pages, I gained a whole new level of respect for that stupid show... or atleast that the person who won it, as he seemed like a total tactical genius.
I like to win but that doesn't always happen in which case I go for the small victories, like killing a fade.
As for the articles posted by Hang Loose, whats the point in being 'teh winnar' if noone will play you more than once. I've played along side and under clan members who I'd never play with again due to the amount of abuse they gave out. OK they got things done but at what cost.
Also whose better the person that doesn't use cheap tactics and wins or the one that does and wins. I think you know...
Of course what you use should depend on the situation, sure in a clan war be as cheap as you like. But in pubs why bother?
or something. But they're all good points, it's like admins banning Siege turrets.
Unfortunately, the only games I've been in where the marines have won have been rush games.. where the entire squad (large games) goes to LMG the first hive to death, or the comm HMG-rushes (small game) and the squad annihilates everything in their path. It's a win, but it's not really fun.. very mechanical. Get IPs, get armory, stock up on ammo, defend against skulk rush, upgrade armory.. wait.. defend more.. armory finishes, distribute HMGs.. go to alien hive, spam health/ammo, kill hive. Beep. Beep. Beep. Game over. Team one has won.
Seems a lot of pub games have come down to this.. both sides rush, one wins out over the other. Not very fun, but slightly rewarding in that it's a win.
It's funny when an alien team gripe about the marine rush, though.. now they know how it feels
Excellent "play to win" articles up there, too.
skulk rush win = skill, marine rush win = respawn rate(80% of the time), we can take two of their guys for each of our skulks and they still come out ahead.
Personally the funnest(most fun?) games for me are limited HA+HMG or GL vs fades and lerks. A full squad of HA walks over everything short of a herd of onos(and theyre usually just pot shotting 1 hive aliens) while fades/onos vs light marines is just a slaughter. Finding the middle ground is tough, but those evenly pitched battles tend to be the best IMO.

Cheapness has nothing to do with it. Adren Parasiting a marine to death? Some might call that cheap, especially if you can find some silly dark corner & sit there doing it.
I call that a stupid marine.
You can have some fun in losing, but if you lose too much...it takes away the fun
Nobody wants to lose, that's a given fact. But, until you're on the losing side and learn to accept it, then the game will become totally fun and you will never have to worry about losing or winning. What I meant about destorying my trait recently is that I played in a server for about five hours and LOST every round. I played Marines and lost every single game during that five hour span. Now, that may not seem fun at all but, most of the game came down to everybody have HA / Gren Launchers and just holding out until the Aliens rushed with all Onos and Lerks (l33t combination). After I left the server, I realized that prior to that five hour binge, I would always get mad at people for not doing what I said. I almost hated myself after realizing that. It almost seemed that I was possessive and wanted to always win. *Morrik kicks himself*
Yes, it does suck to be on the losing side and totally get owned. But, buck up! The next game will come around and you can try again! If you win or lose, it's the amount of fun and laughter you can get out of the whole thing.
I now laugh at the people who take the game totally serious. It's nothing personal but, it seems funny to me now. Moreover, I really don't want to rub it into anybody's faces since it would label me hypocritical and I don't want that.
Achieving absolute victory is fun
I play for both.
Some games I go in giving orders left and right, trying my hardest to win over all odds. Others, I go in, and work with other people... I get the greatest rush not by giving the orders that win the game, or by getting the aliens to wait and rush en masse, but by being a part of that mass(e). Simply put, I think working together as a team is the most fufilling/fun.
Dont tell me that just one time this has happened to you,
You're a fade, assaulting a marine expansion, and get hit pretty hard, you get on voice and start screaming for a gorge in the area, only to find that he was already there and started healing you...
Its not about the war, it's all about the battles...
I have just as much fun losing as winning, I'm just weird like that or something...
When I used to play RTCWolfienstein, I was ALWAYS the medic... it was the most fun for me.
I would be that gorge.
Selfless is a word that could be used to describe a team player
